Génesis POV
❀⊱┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄⊰❀

"None of us are going, we've been through enough to know better than to go on suicide missions. Some of us don't want to result in faking our deaths." I stated a bit harshly, looking at Matías, resulting in him rolling his eyes.

I was going to let it go eventually. Today just wasn't eventually.

"It's an abandoned building. If we take enough firepower, what's the worst that can happen," I turned toward Mateo as if he was insane.

His expression quickly changed from outspoken to scared shitless.

"I wouldn't mind if you went missing for three and a half years, but that'd hurt my sister. I'm still weighing my options, though."

"Conejita," Aurora spoke up from behind me in a warning tone to calm down.

We had been deliberating for ten minutes about the same fucking thing, and she was the only one who seemed to understand why I was so on edge about it.

I took a deep breath exhaling through my nose to ground myself before speaking again. Once I was able to gather my calmer thoughts, I turned my attention back to Matías. Before I could open my mouth to speak, it was as if he read my mind and shook his head, beating me to my own thoughts.

"She said none of us are going, so we're not. That's what we pay people for to do it for us."

I let out a sigh of relief having him agree with me, not like he had a choice if he knew what was good for him. Mateo pinched the bridge of his nose and shook his head in disappointment.

"Mateo, ¿Por qué me estás dando tanto empujón por esto? If I didn't know any better, I'd think you were working for them and want us to get caught?"

"¡¿Cómo te atreves a cuestionar mi lealtad?!"

"Watch your tone speaking to my wife!"

"The same wife you deserted for three and a half years?! Oh, that's rich, she was in here trying to kill herself, and you were hiding like a coward!" Mateo stood and stormed out of the room, not allowing anyone else a chance to speak to him.

Aurora was in disbelief and wanted to check on me, but I told her to check on him instead. It was awkward enough being in front of the entire IT team, but I could feel Mat's eyes burning a hole in the side of my head.

I rose from my chair and turned to Samuel, still avoiding the gaze and wrath of Matías. "Tell Mannie to take a team with him to check it out, make sure they pull out if anything seems off, and check cars for tags before leaving. Switch their cars out at the warehouse before coming back here. ¿Comprendido?"

He nodded his head in understanding extracting the location from his laptop to take it to Mannie. I knew Matías was about to give me an ear full, so I tried to make my way out of the room quickly, but he was quick on my heels.

Sofía was most likely still having lunch with Camila, so I wouldn't interrupt her even though she would be an easy escape route.

"We're not talking about it, Matías, deje de seguirme," he didn't respond, and he didn't stop following either as I had asked.

I made it to my office and tried to close him up, but he was so close to me, he was already in the room and slammed the door himself.

"Can you-," and of course, he cut me off.

"What happened to you, mi amor.

Letting out a long breath, I ran my hands through my hair, playing back the night over.
