Génesis POV
❀⊱┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄⊰❀I had been writing and re-writing this poem for Matías for a few days now, I wanted it to be perfect and I wanted to have it done before we met with Agustín which was also finally happening tonight after a lot and back and forth. I had been in my office today for what seemed like a while before I heard a faint knock at the door and hummed in response for the person to enter. I was too deep in thought with finishing this mini poem for Matías so he could paint what I wrote, I didn't plan on giving him any hint of what it was about until he read it himself. The person entered the room but didn't say anything, I took in their scent and gathered it was Teo. He's usually talkative anytime we hang out so I was concerned.
As I finished up the last line, I looked up at him and he had a worried look on his face as he looked over at me. My heart immediately shattered thinking the worst had happened I stood from my seat abruptly and he held his hands up seeing my state.
"No, no. Nothing happened I was just trying to think of a way to tell you this."
I let out a long breath, leaning back on the edge of my desk waiting for him to continue. He was taking even longer now to process his thoughts which was causing me to overthink.
"Teo if you don't start talking I'm going to stab you in the face," he looked up from his thoughts laughing then realized who was talking to and shut up.
"Sorry, it's just. There was a girl Matías was in love with before when we were sixteen and she broke his heart."
I saw his lips moving but I heard nothing, the only thing I could hear was the sound of my own heartbreaking. I didn't think Mat was the type that was capable of love, however, I thought that was just him not at the cause of another woman. I knew I wasn't his first for many things.
I see now it was stupid of me to assume I was his first love as well.
"Conejita, you're processing. What's wrong?"
I shook the thoughts from my head and gave my best fake smile, "nothing I'm sorry, what were you saying?"
He sighed and refocused the conversation, "I see how you look at him I know there's no one else in this world you'd rather be with. But with the stress of this upcoming war and meeting tonight, he's on edge and I think it's taking him back there. She left him when he needed her most for someone else. Rora assured us there was nothing left between you and Agustín, but I need to hear it from you. I don't want to see my brother hurt again."
He's such a fucking mush sometimes.
Please shut the fuck up.
I stood up walking over to Mateo before grabbing his hand enclosing it between both of mine to reassure him even further. "I promise you there's nothing left for Agustín, I deserve more than to be someone's bet." He nodded and thanked me, while also apologizing for even making it a situation.
"Mateo for the last time it's fine, I would've done the same if roles were reversed. Plus I admire the relationship the two of you share." With that he was done apologizing, he hugged me and said he'd see me later when it was time to go to the meeting which was in two hours.
I saw him out before closing the door and returning to my desk, I stared at my laptop screen reading the poem I had written for Matías. I had tears stinging my eyes reading the words back with the feeling of love resurface as it was all I could think of when I was writing it.
The genuine feeling of being in love for the first time and now knowing there was no way he felt the same, I wasn't going to give him this poem.
