Génesis POV
❀⊱┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄⊰❀

"Cariño, you can't have live birds in your room. They'll poop everywhere, and then how will that look?"

"But you said I could have anything I wanted, and I want birds. It's only fair."

Sofía and Matías had been having this debate for the last ten minutes, and I decided not to get involved and finish making my cookies instead.

One thing I learned about Sof early on, when she had her mind set on something, she'd argue you down until she got it. Mierda de jefe chica if you ask me.

She currently had her hands on her hips, standing in the chair that sat at the island, and Mat, well, had his arms crossed, and I think he thinks he was intimidating. But what he doesn't know is he's met his match in Sof.

I was washing the last of the dishes, and I could tell their banter was nowhere near finished, but it was something about watching them argue like father and daughter that warmed my heart.

"Sí, lo hice, however, you'll be upset if there's poop all over you're room. So, instead of them being in your room, why don't we build a birdhouse in the back? You can keep whatever and however many birds you want in there."

Sofía considered it for a moment before sticking her hand out in front of her, "add a pony, and we've got ourselves a deal, sir."

She's a con artist in the making.

We love it.

Just a little, but still.

Mat's hard exterior, which really wasn't that hard whenever he was talking to her, dropped, and a smile took over his features instead. He clasped his hand to hers and nodded his head in agreement.

"You're the boss, paloma," I sat the plate of cookies down between them with my brows furrowed.

"I thought I was the boss?"

His head snapped to me, and he threw his hands up in surrender, "you're the boss, she's the mini-boss. See, everyone wins y nadie me mata."

"Yet," Aurora said coming into the kitchen. I made sugar cookies which were her favorite so she must've smelt them.

"Barbie!" Sof jumped down from her seat and ran to Rora jumping into her arms.

Rora caught her with ease and smothered her in kisses, they had an amazing relationship already and Rora always had a motherly instinct. Losing her Mama made her want to become a mother and give her kids the love a child deserves. She had my mother of course, but it's not really the same as having your own to confide in.

Knowing that we're blood-related hasn't changed the dynamic of our relationship as I originally thought it would. I know we brushed passed it quite quickly with everything that was happening, but the last almost four years proved one thing to me that when it came to Aurora and I, it would always be us against the world.

"I missed you so much paloma, let's go get Stitch from outside and paint his ears blue?"

Before I knew it they took off and I yelled after them to not paint my dog's ears fucking blue. I knew Aurora did it so I could have time alone with Matías because we've been tending to Sofía every breathing moment. Not that I was complaining, I loved that little girl with every fiber in my body.

"Mi amor, you're processing," I broke my train of thought to look at him.

It still felt foreign to have him home, I had just gotten used to the idea of him not being here and that he wasn't coming back. If it was one thing I have learned by now it's that my life doesn't go according to fucking plan.
