today was the day that esmeray and jack were leaving for michigan. she had packed her winter clothes like jack had said. apparently it would more than likely be snowing when they got there.
esmeray made sure she had enough motion sickness pills, which she did, and she was ready to go.
they ordered an uber to the airport, and checked in when they got there.
the flight wouldn't leave for another hour, so they went through security and went to grab something to eat.
"what would you like?" jack asked as they got into a dunkin' donuts line.
"id just like a bacon, egg, and cheese on a bagel please." she said.
the two were being careful, wearing their masks and trying to keep away people who were nosey and hockey fans.
jack ordered their food, paying for it, and waited for them to make it. esmeray took out her sandwich and started to eat it, pulling up her mask when she wasn't taking a bite.
they boarded onto the plane and jack let esmeray sit in the window seat. they didn't know who would be sitting in the aisle seat, and jack didn't want to take any chances.
esmeray liked the window seats so she didn't mind. she started reading her book while jack checked his phone.
the plane took off and esmeray continued to read her book. jack had fallen asleep on her shoulder but she didn't mind. she found it cute.
the plane landed and esmeray woke jack up. he mumbled some words, making esmeray whisper into his ear.
"you're home."
jack opened his eyes and looked out the window. he was indeed in michigan. with esmeray. he smiled and the two waited to exit the plane.
esmeray made sure her mask was covering her nose and mouth, and put her hood up. she followed jack through the airport to pick up their suitcases.
jack ordered an uber for the two to his parents house, and esmeray started to get nervous.
"what if they heard about what happened? what will they think of me?" esmeray asked jack.
"it doesn't matter what they think. i love you and that's all that matters." jack smiled. he kissed esmeray quickly then looked out the window.
jack loved being back in michigan. it always gave him memories, and he couldn't wait to show esmeray around.
the uber pulled up to jack's parents house and esmeray grew more anxious. jack pulled out their suitcases and rolled them up the driveway. he knocked on the front door, opening it up after.
"im home." jack announced to his parents. his mom came running up and hugged him tightly.
"i've missed you so much!" she exclaimed. she pulled away and looked at esmeray.
"you must be esmeray. i've heard a lot about you from jack." she said.
"all good things i hope." esmeray chuckled nervously.
"im ellen, and my husband jim is somewhere in the kitchen." she said.
"come in, make yourself at home. you're our family now." ellen smiled.
jack left their suitcases by the stairs and he followed behind his mom and esmeray.
"jim, this is esmeray." ellen said to her husband. he put down the kitchen towel and stuck his hand out.
"jim hughes, nice to meet you esmeray." he smiled.
"nice to meet you too." esmeray smiled back.
"come sit, i'd like to get to know you more." ellen said to esmeray. the two girls went into the family room to talk, leaving jack and his dad.
"you really love her, don't you?" jim asked. jack looked at his dad and sighed.
"yeah, yeah. i really, really love her. she's the best." jack replied.
"treat her good. i can tell she loves you too." jim patted jack's back.

esmeray sat down on the couch across from ellen. she was nervous, wanting to know why she being pulled away from jack.
"so, what do you do as far as job wise?" ellen asked, sipping from her coffee mug.
"well i'm in college studying to be a exercise physiologist. i work with the devils as a helper, but i do most anything." esmeray answered.
"how'd you meet jack? i assume at the rink." ellen said.
"actually," esmeray chuckled, "we met at this random party. i was there with my friends and they left me so i went around the house to get some air. he just so happened to be doing the same thing."
"jack and his parties," ellen sighed, "you seem like a nice girl. im glad you knocked some sense into jack."
esmeray smiled and played with the ring on her finger. ellen noticed and looked down at the ring.
"that's very pretty. where did you get it?" ellen asked. esmeray swallowed a breath and stared at the ring.
"it's uh, my moms engagement ring. she...passed away not that long ago so this what i have to remember her." esmeray answered.
"oh, i'm sorry. i shouldnt have asked."
"it's fine. a lot of people ask about it too." esmeray said.
