christmas morning and esmeray was sound asleep at 7 am.
who wasn't asleep? jack. he had been up since 5:30 and he couldn't fall back asleep.
while waiting for esmeray to wake up, he helped his mom make breakfast, which was tradition in their house.
soon jim and quinn came down and helped with the breakfast, leaving luke and esmeray who were still sleeping.
luke eventually came down too with esmeray right behind him.
jack could tell that esmeray was still tired, but could also tell that she was hungry.
"good morning." jack said, kissing the top of her head.
"morning." she replied, her voice a little raspy. jack handed her a mug of tea which she gratefully took.
breakfast was amazing. esmeray loved that jack tried to help his mom cook, but eventually ended up watching old hockey games instead.
after breakfast, esmeray helped ellen with the dishes even though ellen protested.
"so, jack was telling me you're from the beach. i bet christmas' were different than what we did here." ellen said, trying to make small talk.
"every christmas we had was spent in philly with my moms family, so we weren't home for christmas." esmeray explained.
"but philly during the week of christmas is something..different. the weather is cold and sometimes it snows." esmeray smiled, recalling the times spent at her aunts house.
"thank you for helping me. i suppose the boys are waiting for us." ellen smiled.
the two went over to the living room where the all the "little kids" were sitting. esmeray sat down next to jack and he wrapped an arm around her shoulder.
gifts were handed out and esmeray watched jack. she noticed how every time he got something cool, his eyes would sparkle.
"this is for you, from all of us." ellen said, handing esmeray a small box. she took it and smiled.
after carefully unwrapping it, esmeray looked inside the box. inside was a gold necklace with her name on it.
"i know it isn't something big, but it was kind of last minute." jim explained.
"i love it. thank you." esmeray smiled.
"read the back." ellen said eagerly.
esmeray flipped over the necklace, reading the back.

esmeray smiled even bigger and giggled.
"thank you." esmeray said again. she stood up and got the presents she wrapped from underneath the tree, handing them out to each person.
jim and ellen both got quinn and jack jerseys. one half being quinn's canucks jersey, the other half being jack's devils jersey.
quinn and luke both got new clothes with the help of ellen and jack.
now it was jacks turn. he started to unwrap the gift box and esmeray was nervous. luke placed a hand on her shoulder, assuring her it would be fine.
jack pulled of the top of the box, taking out the tissue paper inside. he pulled out the jersey and looked at the back.
"is it supposed to be quinns jersey or luke's jersey?" jack asked.
"luke's.., but you could say it's both." esmeray reasoned, biting the inside of her cheek.
"i love it. thank you." jack smiled, kissing esmerays cheek. she was glad that he liked it and she looked over at luke and quinn, giving them a big smile and mouthing, thank you.
since the hughes family was hosting christmas dinner, everyone had to start getting ready for the evening.
"what should i wear?" esmeray asked when the two got up to jack's bedroom.
"what did you bring?" jack asked. he was sitting on his bed, watching esmeray look through her clothes.
"this? or is it too fancy?" esmeray held up a sparkly red top.
"too fancy. just wear jeans a t-shirt, that's what i'm doing." jack shrugged his shoulders.
"you're no help." esmeray groaned. she finally picked out a pair of blue jeans and a different red top. nothing too fancy, like jack had said, but was still nice and looked presentable.
"how do i look?" esmeray asked. jack looked up from his phone and smiled.
"hot." jack said. esmeray rolled her eyes and playfully punched jack's shoulder.
"you're not funny." esmeray said.
"yes i am." jack scoffed.
"no, you're not." esmeray smirked.
"look." jack pointed out his window and esmeray quickly looked over.
"gotcha." jack chuckled. esmeray glared at him, but soon started laughing with him.
jack's family started coming to the house, so the two went downstairs. they sat on the couch next to quinn and luke who were watching old hockey videos.
"hey esmeray, want to see a video of baby jack?" luke asked. jack glared at his brother but esmeray nodded her head, smiling.
she turned her attention to the tv where there was a young quinn and a young jack. the two were playing hockey in the living room of their old house.
jack had scored a goal on quinn and started dancing. esmeray started laughing, loving the fact that her boyfriend still hadn't changed much.
"don't be embarrassed, it was cute." esmeray assured jack.
after jack introduced esmeray to his family members, including his nana and papa, esmeray spent some time talking to them. her nerves had definitely gone out the window tonight.
esmeray loved his grandparents. they were great people and funny too.
dinner was great, and esmeray was starting to get closer to jack's family.
when everyone was gone and everything was cleaned up, esmeray and jack went up to his room to watch a movie.
esmeray changed into her pajamas and cuddled into jack's side.
"merry christmas." jack kissed the top of her head and pulled her closer to him.
