Signy's small body, only five years of age, was tucked into her lavish covers as her older brothers stood beside the four-poster bed, telling her a bedtime story in tandem. While others may read their children stories of princes and princesses, Signy had grown old of those quickly, for that was her everyday life. She wanted something unique, something she'd never experienced before and could hardly imagine. So, that's what led to her brothers sharing the war stories their father raised them on.

"Long before the birth of light, there was darkness," Thor began dramatically, his arms moving around the room as if addressing a huge crowd rather than just his little sister. "And from that darkness came the Dark Elves."

Loki burst from the closet, making his stomps echo through the room as he tromped over to the bed, a menacing glare on his face.

"Long ago, the most ruthless of their kind, Malekith, sought to transform our universe back into one of eternal night."

Loki twirled and the lights in the room cut out. "No!" Signy cried, hiding under her covers.

Loki then made it appear like a match had been lit from his thumb as firelight danced across the siblings' faces. He strolled over to the bed, leaning in close to Signy as he continued the story. "Such evil was made possible by the power of the Aether." From the fire on Loki's finger shot a bright, red light. A stone. It flew through the air and danced above Signy's bed. She leaned back and watched the red light circle around the room. "An ancient force of infinite destruction."

Signy gasped and grabbed the fabric of Loki's sleeve anxiously. He smiled down at the little girl as she said, "How did we defeat them, Brother?"

Thor took back over, crouching down so he was eye-level with Signy. "Well, as soon as the Asgardian forces showed up, they were ready to pee their pants." Signy giggled and pulled Loki closer by his sleeve. "Our grandfather, King Bor, led the armies into battle and waged a mighty war against the nasty creatures.

"The nine worlds converged above him and Malekith prepared to unleash the power of the Aether on the realms. But Asgard ripped the weapon from his grasp! And without it, the Dark Elves fell."

"In a desperate attempt to lay waste to Asgard's army," Loki continued, "Malekith sacrificed his own people, dropping their ships over the battleground." The imagery danced across the ceiling with Loki's magic. His smile grew as he watched his sister's bewildered expression.

"But Malekith was vanquished, and the Aether was no more," Thor concluded. "Or so we were led to believe. The Asgardian forces buried it deep, somewhere no one would ever find it."

Signy's smile was bright as she suddenly jumped up out of bed. Before either of the boys could grab her, Signy pulled a plastic sword from the top of her dresser and held it out against her brothers. "I want to battle the Dark Elves!"
