Falling Apart

Alice got out the car. I took a deep breath and got out the car. We headed inside.

Mom and dad were sitting on the couch. They both looked at me.

"Thanks for bringing her home" My mom said as smiled.

"I am staying over at Clay's for a while, I am going to pack my things" (Alice)

"Okay sweetie" (Mom)

Alice went to her room to pack her bags.

"I actually wanted to talk" I said as I walked towards them.

They got off their phones.

I stood in front of them.

"Mom, you know about my...girlfriend?" I said as I took a deep breath.

"Of course I do. Do I get to meet her? Is she in the car" She said excitedly.

"Oh my gosh, I am not ready. Do I look nice? I get to meet the future mom of my grandchildren. Are Nick and George there too? I didn't think George and her were going to get along much since you talk so much about George" She said as she chuckled.

"About George.." I said as I sighed

"Oh so George and her do have a problem? I knew it. You see you are never supposed to introduce your girlfriend to your best friends at the start of a new relationship. You know George is nice and all but he always seemed very protective over your platonic relationship. He values your friendship and might want to ruin your relationship because he doesn't want to lose his friend" Mom said as she sighed.

Alice was done packing her bags and was waiting by the door.

"Maybe you should distance yourself from him and Nick. Spend some time with your girlfriend. They are nice boys but they just get in the way too much. Maybe you can suggest to George to go to the UK and to take Nick with him for a while" (Mom)

I was angry at this point.

"Why don't you like George" I said as I clenched my fists.

"I never said that" She said surprised.

"Then why are you doing this? I know all about you little stunt at dinner" I said angrily.

"Don't get angry now, we did what we needed to do. We are glad you found a girlfriend" Dad said as he rose his voice.

"Why do you protect George so much? I get he is your friend sweetie but you should care much more for your girlfriend. She will be there when you need her most, she will make you happier than you have ever been" (Mom)

"WHY CANT YOU BOTH UNDERSTAND, I AM DATING GEORGE. THATS RIGHT I AM DATING HIM AND I AM IN LOVE WITH HIM. HE WAS THERE WHEN I NEEDED HIM THE MOST. HE IS THE ONE WHO MAKES ME HAPPY. WHERE WERE YOU MOM? WHERE? A CALL GOES BOTH WAYS. YOU COULDVE CALLED ME" I said angrily.

They were shocked. Mom was starting to cry. Dad was angry.

"THAT DINNER PLAN YOU HAD, WAS JUST WOW. HOW COULD YOU DO THAT? YOU MADE HIM CRY. YOU MADE HIM THINK HE ISNT GOOD ENOUGH FOR ME. HE TRIED HIS BEST, HE BROUGHT YOU A GIFT. HE WAS NERVOUS THE WHOLE WAY HERE. HE JUST WANTED TO IMPRESS YOU" I said heartbroken.

"He felt he wasn't good enough. All you did was talk about my relationships. You didn't care, for me or for my friends. I know you want grandchildren but you really went out of your way to plan this whole thing. You're my parents, talk to me. You said you would've been disappointed if I was gay, well guess what, I am dating him. Guess I am a disappointment. You are supposed to love me, right now I feel used. I don't care if you think bad of me. I don't care if you stop contact all together. What you did was unforgivable. I am you're son, not some person who can give you whatever you want. Don't play the victim here"

"No need to kick me out dad, I am already leaving" I said as I looked at him.

Tears were forming. I went out the door. Alice followed shortly behind.

We got in the car and I started it. I took a deep breath and wiped my tears. I began to drive.

Alice seemed upset.

"What's wrong, I am the one who just yelled at them, not you" I said as I softly chuckled.

"Everything feels like it's falling apart" Alice said as her voice cracked.

She was on the verge of tears.

We stopped at a red light. I looked at her patted her head.

"How so?" I asked.

"My life is falling apart. Mom and dad don't check up on me, they only care about you and Ivy. I get good grades but whenever I fail a test they just yell at me and tell me I am stupid and that I never do anything right. They care for Liam because he is small. I feel like just a servant to them. My friends are drifting from me because I have just been so tired emotionally. I have no one to turn to" She said as tears ran down her face.

Time Skip

We arrived. We were still in the car, in the driveway. Alice and I had a long talk on the way here.

"Look, I am going to help you okay? Don't cry. I am going to get you the help you need. Mom and dad are getting old and they want to do everything they can before they pass. Meaning, attempting to get grandchildren and other things. They just forgot about you. They are messed up in the head right now. I am sorry I wasn't there for you, I really am" I said as I wiped her tears.

"Are you happy without mom and dad?" She said as she sighed.

"What do you mean?"

"Have you been happy? Without them. All this time without them" (Alice)

"Well, people soon live their own life without their parents. It's best to stay in contact with them. You don't live with your parents for the rest of your life, you tend to grow more as a person and find your own place in the world. Of course I am happy, what I did was just terrible. I had forgotten to call but they did too. Again, a call goes both ways"

She hugged me tightly.

"Don't tell anyone about this, my reputation will be ruined if people knew I hugged you" She said as she sniffled and laughed.

"Okay" I said as I smiled and hugged her back.
