Tina
I run in the wheat field as the cold breeze tingles my skin and the full moon shines above. The wheat grains feel soft against my palms as I run caressing them.
"Tina bitiya, ruk. Main tuhanu kini vaara akhada haam ki raata nu kanaka de kheta vala ne bhajo?" My papa runs behind and catches me. (How often do I have to tell you not to run to the wheat fields at night?)
I giggle as he lifts me on his shoulders and walks to our house. Though my parents are school teachers we own our farming land and I love playing in the fields. Mummy scolds me for running out in the night and Papa hides me from her view, in turn getting scolded for pampering and spoiling me with his love. Like every night he reads me stories of Prince Charming finding his Princess, until I fall asleep on him. He lays me on bed and whispers good night to me. I hugged his hand, "Love you papa ji, good night."
I sleep between my parents enjoying the warmth of them during the rainy and winter nights. It rains heavily outside with thunder and lightning and I snuggle close to my papa, clutching on his shirt.
Prince Charming only exists in the books but in reality it's Papa, the king who always finds and protects the princess, his daughter.
I turn my face and bury my right cheek on my pillow which is unusually hard than its regular soft puffiness. I roam my right hand on the pillow to check whether I pushed my head off the pillow and rested on bed. Something pokes my right thigh followed by a masculine throat clearing and I open my eyes. I raise my head and look up to meet the awkward eyes of Rudhran ji.
I slowly look down at our position and realise that I'm almost laying on top of Rudhran ji. I scurry off to my side and he sits up.
What did poke on my thigh?
My eyes go wide before automatically travelling to his crotch. My mouth drops as I look at his angry gaze before he gets off the bed and turns the other way, pulling down his shirt.
"Men will always be men," I murmured to myself and got down from bed.
"What did you say?" He walks around the bed and stops in front of me.
"Nothing," I try to move aside but he blocks my way. "I said men will always be men," I try to move through my left side but he holds my shoulders and twirls me, pinning against the wall.
"With your GPA and with the books you read, I thought you would know that morning wood is common to all men." He squeezes my arms and moves his face closer to me, "I'm not that old for this to stop and I'm healthy that my bloodstream runs properly." I turn my face to look the other way but he tightens his grip and makes me look at him. I closed my eyes, not wanting to look at his face.
"It's you who approached to help me in this fake marriage, yeah things took a different turn and we are forced to put up the act. Do you think I'm enjoying it? I'm fucking worried about getting married for real with all rituals. And it's you who suggested reading a book together and it's you who moved closer and snuggled into me in your sleep, accidently." I opened my eyes and looked at him. I recall my dream and realise that I have hugged him, thinking it's my papa ji.
"It's been forever, since any girl came in close contact with me. It's not sexual desire and it's merely a physical reaction and that's it. When are you going to stop thinking of me in a wrong perspective?" He takes a couple of steps back, turns and walks towards the washroom. His hurtful voice nearly broke me.
