Chapter Eighty Four

PEETA'S POV

Katniss stands in front of the mirror in our room, in her MockingJay suit. She is making a speech today at the Capitol, for the twenty six years of freedom from the games and poverty. She's shaking like a leaf, holding 'The Treaty Of Peace' in her scarred hands. "P-people of Panem."

She quivers to herself. She's never been good at speaking in front of crowds or anyone in that matter. "T-Twenty six years ago-" "Katniss?" She turns, tears brimming in her eyes and I smile. "You look beautiful." "I'm sorry for getting emotional." I shake my head. "No, you have every right." Effie opens the door. "The cameras are ready for you to present the treaty Katniss in the square." I nod and she walks over to her and kisses her cheek.

"You will do fabulous." I stand and take her hand, kissing her lips gently. "I love you." "I love you more."

KATNISS'S POV

We walk down the steps and then are greeted with many cameras following our every move. The long trek to the square is filled with silence but people watching. They salute me with the three finger salute as I walk pass, holding Peeta's hand. When we are at time square more cameras are there and soldiers standing at attention. I walk between them as they stand at attention and pass Cressida, Gale, Pollux, Caster, and Mason at the end. He smiles at me through his beard and I walk up onto the stage in front of the new justice building.

I look at a gold Capitol camera and begin. "Almost thirty years ago, I stood on this stage... Saving my sister from the games. I fell in love with Peeta Mellark, who is now my husband and the father of my two children." I smile sadly. "It's hard to think that I caused a rebellion... I always wanted to live a low profiled life and well, here I am." People chuckle and I smile a little.

"The Treaty of Treason was taken away from Panem forever twenty six years ago today, myself, President Paylor, Peeta, Haymitch Abanarthy, Johanna Mason, and Plutarch Heavensbee created the Treaty Of Peace." I clear my throat.

"Peace shall prosper through Panem for the rest of time, no war, no games, no poverty will come to this country. The Capitol will not be punished because we are forgiving, and we want them to prosper with us, the districts. There will be memorials held for every tribute that died over the seventy five years of the games, which the total number would be 1,800 children dead, helpless, innocent children dead because of the Capitol." I look dead into the camera now. "Any rebellion that will stop the peace and try to bring the games back will be stopped, the people participating will be arrested and executed with no remorse. Henceforth and forever more this country will be free."

TREATY OF PEACE

Everyone cheers and I smile. "Panem today, Panem tomorrow, Panem forever." The soldiers raise their rifles and shoot 1,800 blanks into the sky for the fallen tributes. They sound like the cannons that summoned their young deaths. Then a old propo plays above me where I know my children will see me, how I once was, young, strong, magnetic.

"People of Panem we fight, we dare, to end our hunger for justice!" Hovercrafts fly past my beautiful body as I hold a rebel flag, with a group of people cheering with me. Everyone gives a standing ovation and I see Mason cheering and whooping with his comrades. After I finish I lead a walk to the grave sight in the meadow so people can pay their respects.

Grieving family members stand at their dead family members grave, friends, neighbors. Peeta finds me in the crowd of mourning people and holds me close to his chest. I don't care if people stare, I wrap my arms tightly around his neck and do not let go, there's no words needed at this time, he understands.

That night Kaden stares at me while I'm in my uniform, speaking with Plutarch over negotiations with the army beyond the boarder. He wants me to go there for the surrender, we will gain more land and he wants me there. "That's a lot to ask Plutarch." "I know it is, I understand that you want to stay with your children, but this would be the last thing your needed for." He puts his hands up in the air. "You can go into full retirement, no more after this." I bite my lip. "I'll go." I glare. "But this is the last time." He shakes my hand.
