Chapter Fifty

PEETA'S POV

I sit at the table with some breakfast pastries in front of me that Rye made. Katniss and Lily went to the Hob for a little bit to talk to the locals. Willow sits on my lap, chewing on her own pastry and I chuckle, kissing her cheek. Then the door opens to Katniss, holding onto Lily's hand who looks at her boots that Katniss got her, her blonde hair in two braids.

"What's the matter Lily?" I ask and Katniss smiles a little. "We had a little problem at the Hob." I raise an eyebrow. "What's a little problem Katniss?" Katniss takes off her jacket and helps take Lily's off. "She didn't know better Peeta-" "Katniss just tell me." She clears her throat. "She took some flowers from a stand to give to me, she was taught to steal when those men had her."

I raise an eyebrow. "Did anything happen?" That's when Katniss looks down. "Well she got chased and got stuff thrown at her until she hid behind me... I got into a little bit of trouble." Katniss says softly. "Like what?" She smiles sadly. "I can't go to the Hob for a few days that's all, I talked to her it was just a little accident." "Katniss that's bad." I say and I look at Lily.

"You should've known better." "I'm really sorry Peeta." "Hey leave her alone!" Katniss says angrily. "Well I'm sorry that an eight year old doesn't know better from right to wrong!" "Well I'm sorry that she didn't know better Peeta! You would've done the same and so would I! It's just a couple days!" I glare at her and she glares at me. She looks at Lily. "Take your shoes off Prim." I drop my fork, Katniss covers her mouth, even Willow falls silent. "Katniss?" Lily says softly and Katniss kisses the top of her head.

"Go into your room, I need to go get some air." Lily does and Katniss walks out of the house, slamming the door. I set Willow in her playpen and grab my jacket. I slip it on and open the door slowly. I see Katniss leaning against the wooded railing of our porch, her face in her hands. "Katniss?" "Please just leave me alone." Katniss says softly. "But Katniss-" "I said leave me alone." She says sternly. I shut the door softly. I punch the wall and groan.

"What's wrong Catnip?" I look out the window to see Gale, a cigarette poking out of his beard. Katniss is stuttering, trying to get the words out but can't as she sobs. "Come on straighten up I can't understand you." He says and grabs her waist gently and then she bursts into sobs, wrapping her arms around his neck and nestling her face into his shoulder. "Katniss I can't help you if I don't know what's going on."

Gale says, rubbing her back. "I miss Prim so much Gale! I let her die! I let her die alone in the damn Capitol! They killed her! They killed her!" Katniss screams. Gale holds her tightly, a tear rolling down his cheek. "Where's your pills for your attacks Catnip?" he asks, while putting out his cigarette.

"Upstairs." She gasps, still shaking. He nods. "Alright, you're okay, I'll be right back." He takes off his jacket, putting it around her shoulders where it goes down below her knees. He walks through the door and looks at me. "I don't know what the hell you said that would make her so upset but whatever it was, you never say it again, don't you dare fuck her up, if you do this to her it'll end her." I look down.

"And you know exactly what I'm talking about." He's right, she'd kill herself. He licks his lips. "She was on her hands and knees helping you all week last week after your meltdown, and this is what she gets? Are you kidding me? Her bandages on her shoulder need changed, she needs to have breakfast, she needs to get her medications, she needs someone to talk to, and if you can't give her want she needs then I'll make sure Haymitch and Mrs. Everdeen hear about this." He storms upstairs.

After a few moments he comes back down with a glass of water and her pills, walking out the front door. God I messed up.

__________Gales POV_______

I hand her the glass of water and her pills. "Here, take it you'll calm down after." She does and after a few moments calms down. I look into her grey eyes that were completely dark a moment ago and I gently tip her chin up so she's looking at me.

"Hey, is that the Catnip that everyone loves? It's good to see ya." She smiles a little and so do I. I put a loose strand of hair behind her ear from her braid. "Why did you freak out Catnip?" "I accidentally called Lily Prim." I clear my throat. "Maybe talking about Prim with Lily will help." She nods. "Can you help me?" I nod slowly. "Of course." We walk in together and I see Peeta sitting at the table with a frown on his face and Katniss slowly walks over to him and kisses his jaw. "I'm fine... Just don't snap at me anymore alright? It's a trigger."

I grab a photo of Prim that's in a frame and hand it to Katniss. "Come on Catnip." We walk upstairs together and we walk over to Lily's door that use to be Prim's. Katniss knocks slowly and Lily opens the door. "Yes Katniss?" Katniss smiles a little. "Can I come in please?" Lily nods and Katniss and I walk in. I let Katniss sit on the bed next to Lily and she takes Lily's small hand. Even though Lily has only been here for a week they have grown a strong bond.

"Katniss?" Katniss nods. "Yes Lily?" "Why did you call me Prim?" Katniss bites her lip. "I don't know... Peeta was stressing me out and I know he didn't mean to and I just didn't know I was calling you that." She shows Lily the picture of Prim. Lily smiles, tilting her head. "She kinda looks like me." Katniss chuckles. "Yeah she kinda does doesn't she?" Katniss's arm wraps around Lily's and she kisses her temple.

"I couldn't save her when she died but I promise I'll always save you... Nothing bad will happen to you when I'm here alright?" Lily nods and wraps her arms around Katniss tightly, she does the same, kissing the top of her head. "I'm not going to let them take you from me." "Who's them Katniss?" Katniss laughs. "President Snow of course!" "Katniss he's dead." I say softly and Katniss holds Lily closer.

"Is he?" And in that moment I know that something is horribly wrong in Katniss's head and I don't know if medication will help it.
