3rd person POV:

It’s late evening when T arrives at his apartment building, the sun sinking down and saying its final goodbyes for the day. He quietly makes his way up to the top floor and lifts himself onto the tiled roof with some effort, letting out a short huff. From across the roof, he can see Z looking over at him.

T smiles and waves a hello. “Thanks for coming and helping at the festival today. It was really nice.”

Z nods, and his face softens, barely. “For you.”

T knows Z doesn’t flirt, but the truthfulness makes his heart skip anyway. He gestures to the spot next to Z. “Mind if I sit?” T doesn’t wait for an answer, but Z doesn’t move away, so he supposes it’s fine.

They sit quietly for a few minutes. T searches through his bag, rummaging for something he can’t seem to find. Z has turned to look at him, although T can’t see it.

“Is there something you’re looking for?”

T frowns in concentration and sticks his hand in deeper. “Yes, I think I’ve almost got it…”

His fingers brush the familiar silky surface of petals, and he pulls out a flower, radiant under the now-risen moon, hanging low like a secret in the sky. He offers it to Z with a sheepish grin.

“I wanted to give you one.”

Z takes it gently from him, fingers brushing his.

“You did not have to,” he says, but his voice is gentle, not reprimanding.

T shrugs. “I know. Don’t think of it as a thank-you gift, though. I’ve… actually been meaning to give you one for a while.”

Even in the moonlight, Z can see T has flushed slightly, and he hides the strange urge to laugh. T closes his eyes and tentatively settles his head onto Z’s shoulder. It’s far from the first time they’ve done this, and Z immediately leans into him, hand wrapping around T’s waist and pulling him closer.

Z closes his eyes, pretends he deserves this, pretends he’s someone T can keep, doesn’t notice he’s stiffening until T murmurs, “I’m here, Z,” and the tension in him snaps like a string. He exhales shakily, and he hesitates, then presses a light kiss to the top of T’s head.

T starts to drift off, lulled by the calm atmosphere and the warmth of Z next to hin, and thinks he’s never felt more accepted.
