Chapter 22: The Masquerade

"You did a good thing Jooyoung." Casey tells him.

He looks at her with doubt.

"Minho is not the right guy for Kari. He hurt her very badly. He also hurt this company. He more than broke her heart, he burned it to ashes and threw it away. He put her through so much pain. All while knowing exactly what he was doing. To be honest, it doesn't make sense the he wants to get back with her after everything he did. It's really suspicious to me," Casey tells him.

"What will Kari do when she finds out what I said to him? All the lies I told him," Jooyoung asks in a quiet voice, afraid to find hear the answer.

"That I don't know, but I know she'll be grateful you protected her."

"Don't worry Jooyoung. Everything will work out. Just give it some time," Zico says.

Jooyoung sits up and give everyone a small relieved smile.

"Thanks guys."

"Well, with all of that out of the way, how about we eat now?" Casey asks while she stand up from the couch.

The guys move to the table while Casey goes to get Kari.

Before Casey can knock on the door it opens and Kari pulls her into the room shutting the door behind her.

"I heard what Jooyoung said," Kari whispers.

"Why are you whispering? We're in your room and the door is closed," Casey questions.

"I don't know, because this is secretive stuff I guess," Kari says in a normal tone. "Anyway, I heard what Jooyoung did to Minho."

"And?"

"And it just makes me really not want to be in this break anymore!" Kari exclaims.

"So you're not mad about the lies that Jooyoung told to Minho?"

"Obviously not!" Kari says, giving Casey a death glare.

Casey puts her hands up in a 'don't hurt me' gesture.

"I mean he went a little overboard with the whole making Minho think I'm pregnant, but yeah..." Kari shrugs. "I'm so confused about this whole situation now. He says we should take a break and then he goes and protects me from my horrible ex. What am I supposed to think about this?" She asks.

"It means that he regrets taking the break, but that maybe the two of you needed it so that you can realize how strong and true your feelings are for each other," Casey says.

"You're kinda smart sometimes," Kari replies with a smile.

"Well, I do own my own company," Casey says with a shrug and a smile. "Anyway, let's go eat."

"Wait!"

Casey stops by the door and turns back to Kari with raised eyebrows.

"What about your date? How did it go?" Kari asks.

"I'll tell you after dinner, okay?"

Dinner goes better than any of them expect it to. It isn't nearly as awkward as it had been the last few days and Kari and Jooyoung are even talking to each other a little. It's only things like "pass the chicken" but it's progress. The couple themselves are received that they are moving past the awkward silence phase and on to a more comfortable quiet stage.

After dinner Zico and Jooyoung go straight to bed out of tiredness while Casey and Kari take dessert to Casey's room to talk.

As promised Casey tells Kari about her and Zico's whole day. She even talks about the jewelry store weirdness that confused her. For a while they speculate about what Zico bought. Kari thinks it's an engagement ring, but Casey immediately shoots down the idea.
