Chapter 39: Fraud and Fretting

(Jooyoung and Kari)

Kari has no idea what she's gong to do before the police show up. She keeps imagining them busting into her office and dragging her away in handcuffs. She thinks about calling Casey, hoping he phone isn't really off, but she doesn't want to bother her when she's busy looking for Zico.

"Jooyoung," Kari finally says after twenty minutes of silence.

"Come up with something?"

"It might not help and just be a waste of time, but I think we should look at the contracts Casey has," She suggests.

"It's as good a plan as any," He agrees.

They head over to Casey's office and begin looking through the filing cabinets taking up the entire left wall of the office.

"This might take awhile," Kari says with a sigh.

"Don't worry, I'll start on the right, you start on the left. Together we can find something useful," Jooyoung says comfortingly as he pulls Kari into a tight hug.

He releases her and they begin their expansive task. They slowly go through each drawer, finding copyright contracts, building paperwork, and so on. After some time Kari manages to find the drawer housing her own contract.

"I found my contract. It might help us," She says as she pulls it from the drawer and moves to sit at Casey's desk.

Just as she's about to read it her phone rings. She immediately answers when she sees its Illionaire.

"Hello?"

"Hey Kari, I have the paperwork, but I just received a call from the police. They're saying something about fraud. What's going on?"

"I have no idea. I got a call too. I'm trying to figure it out," She tells him.

"I'm sure it's a mistake."

"I'm looking into some things and I have a meeting with the police later. I'll have everything situated by then."

After hanging up Kari runs back to Casey's office. Jooyoung's already in the seat she vacated and is looking over Kari's contract.

"Did you sign a new contract?" He asks as she pulls up a chair.

"No, why?"

"Because I don't see the No Dating Clause in here," He tells her.

"Is this the most recent one?"

He turns to the last page and shows the date next to her signature.

"That's weird... I don't remember signing another contract after you proposed," She comments.

"Are you sure you don't remember signing this?"

"Now that I think about it Casey had me sign a lot of paperwork the week after the masquerade. Maybe this was in with everything," Kari contemplates.

"Why didn't she say anything?"

"It's probably supposed to be a surprise, but because of Zico's disappearance she forgot."

"Well, if she changed this maybe changed something else. Let's keep reading," Kari urges excitedly.

"We better hurry, there's not much time left," He points out.

They begin quickly scanning the contract for anything helpful to their situation. After an hour of reading, they're nearly at the end of the contract with nothing of use. Kari begins to freak out and Jooyoung worries about what'll happen to Kari if they don't find something soon.
