Later would be dinner time, and then we would typically retire, but on that night, I wanted more. So, as if on a blind gamble, I went outside to wander around the pool area. I somehow knew that Joe, or Chaos, would find me.

Jackpot. Soon I heard quiet footsteps approaching. That was Chaos.

"Hey."

"How did it go?" He asked, referring to my conversation with Cesar.

"Piece of cake."

Then there was a silence between us, and I decided to go straight to what we were doing there.

"Come here," I asked, calling him to the side of the pool house. He joined me, and there we kissed most deliciously way. It was nice to make out with him like when we were young. He even smelled like Joe.

"Hmmm... This feels nice." I said.

"But... I'm still Chaos, though." He said in an apologetic tone.

"I know."

"It's like I'm living inside my old job." He said, remembering his old undercover cop days.

Then I saw one of the house staff walking in the garden. He appeared to be working, but he certainly saw us.

"And being terrible at it," I remarked, indicating the man passing by.

"Do you think he'll tell?"

"Well... now they'll know. What about MaryAnne?"

"I'll deal with her."

I took a deep breath.

"But what are we doing, really? "I said. "I mean, who are you after all, and why are you letting me indulge so much?"

"What?"

"You're letting me live a fantasy."

He pulled away from our embrace but stayed close.

"Why did you come to me that day?"

"Does it matter?"

My question seemed to irritate him.

"You were fucking Chaos only to back at Cesar, weren't you? You never cared for me in the first place!" He started venting and escalating by the second. "You don't give a damn that it's me! I'm here! "He said with tears in his eyes, breaking my heart.

"You are... "We heard Cesar's voice approaching. "...reeeally pushing your luck, my friend."

Cesar punched Joe so suddenly that it knocked him down.

"Now, what the hell is this?" Cesar asked me.

"None of your business."

"Oh, but it is my business; it's nothing but my business! Or else I wouldn't be standing here, making a fool of myself!"

"No..." Joe said, getting up. "I'm definitely the fool around here." He said, leaving there. Cesar was impressed.

"He's Joe!" He commented, astonished. "That guy was really Joe! It's amazing how they are like!"

"What if..."

"No." Cesar didn't even let finish that thought.

"He could be."

"But he's not. And by the way, it was reckless what you did, killing me so you could be with him. He could have turned on you."

"He didn't."

"Yet."

I decided to clarify something.

"How did you find out we were here?"

"Steven told me the minute he got home. It would help if you were more careful about our staff."

In all this, he didn't look at me. Instead, he just glanced to say.

"Come on, let's go inside."

On the way back, he said.

"We have an event to attend... a fundraiser of some sort. So if it's okay with you, I thought it would be good to present ourselves as a couple."

"Of course."

"Cool."

"But what about Shannon?"

"I believe she'll be there with Chaos. It seems they are allies now."

"Huh."

"Ron thinks this is turning into a weird party."

I didn't answer anything.
