On the way to his new home, Joe's eyes darkened. He accepted that the situation he had just endured with Lilian was his punishment. This was his personal hell, the price he paid for taking his own life years ago. He accepted the situation as irreversible and saw only one path forward: continuing to be MaryAnne's doormat for as long as she wished.
"Are you happy with your actions?" MaryAnne asked, noticing Joe's expression. He didn't answer. Rony observed in silence, resigned. "This car feels like a funeral," she continued. "And I hate funerals. Only one ever mattered to me."
"And how was it?" Joe asked, his tone challenging.
MaryAnne understood Joe's defiance but, in a way, appreciated it. She responded calmly, "Beautiful."
As soon as they arrived home, Joe retreated to his quarters. As MaryAnne watched him go, Rony called out, "Anne."
"Hmm?" she responded, as if a long train of thought had been interrupted.
"You need to return what's mine."
"If I could, I would have already returned it, but you know it's not that simple."
MaryAnne started to head to her room, but Rony blocked her path. With a loving tone, he asked again, "For us, Mary."
She caressed his face and replied, "You'll have to get over it. Besides, we don't need the power. I can protect both of us without it. Now, if you'll excuse me."
She bid him farewell and went upstairs, directly to Joe's room, where she found him downcast.
"I'm sorry for interfering and for the pain I caused you. I tend to overreact as a mother. I'm sure you understand, being a father yourself."
Joe's anger only increased with her mention of Rachel. He was so enraged that he spoke in a mocking tone, "Pfff... father."
"We share a common enemy," MaryAnne continued.
"He will get his punishment at the right time," Joe grumbled.
"And not a minute later," she commented, smiling as she left the room.
Meanwhile, Lilian enjoyed one of the rare moments she could stay home alone. She felt like the queen of her castle.
At Shannon's house, things were not going well. Cesar couldn't stop thinking about his fight with Jase.
"Kick me out? Who does he think he is?" he muttered.
"Talking to me, dear?" Shannon asked from another room.
"Just thinking out loud."
"About?"
Cesar pondered for a moment. "Nothing for you to worry about."
Shannon walked over to him. "Or nothing that concerns me. I understand," she said, wrapping her arms around him. "Maybe I have something to cheer you up."
"Thanks, but I'll have to pass this time."
Cesar knew it was drugs. Despite having enjoyed them in the past, he was too nervous at the moment. It would be too easy to lose control and go back to destroying Lilian's new guardian... and he still didn't want to start a war with Mr. Innis.
Jase was collecting his money from his latest job. He wouldn't tire of this work anytime soon.
Across the city, Vince was stunned by what he had just learned.
"Mr. Innis?!"
"The man himself," Victor commented.
"So Cesar is more important than I thought..."
"He went there because of her."
"Because of her? Mr. Innis? Looking for Lilly?"
"That's right."
"Why?"
"That's the million-dollar question. All I know is that after his brief visit, Cesar left and Jase stayed behind."
"And where did Cesar go?"
"Straight to Shannon's, where else?"
"Something doesn't add up. Why would Mr. Innis want to interfere in their marriage?"
"Maybe they know each other."
"Lilly?! He wouldn't have let her go through what she did."
"I don't know." After thinking for a bit, Victor joked, "And to think you made that girl scrub the floor."
"Oh God..."
When Jase opened the door of his apartment to escort his client to the elevator, he came face to face with Mr. Innis and another sinister figure.
"Sir!"
"Do you have a minute?" Mr. Innis asked, already entering the apartment. Flustered, Jase took his client to the elevator and quickly returned, anxious.
"Sir."
"What are you doing?" Mr. Innis asked. Jase didn't know what to say. Seeing his silence, Mr. Innis continued. He extended his hand to the sinister figure, who handed him a cell phone. Mr. Innis then gave it to Jase. "Use this if you need to communicate with me."
"Understood."
"Get rid of your old phone. You have a new life now."
"But, sir..." Jase started to say. Mr. Innis gave him a challenging look, so Jase quickly corrected himself. "Of course, sir."
"Good," Mr. Innis said, extending his hand again to the sinister figure, who handed him a card. "This is your lawyer. You have his contact on your phone, but please keep his card as well. I have a feeling you'll need to use it soon."
"My lawyer?"
Mr. Innis took a deep breath and explained, "Whatever she needs, whatever she wants, wherever she wants to live, she will have it."
"Okay."
"I don't think you understand. The mother will never scrub the floor again unless she wants to. Wherever she wants to live, so be it."
Seeing that Jase didn't understand, the lawyer explained, "Just send us the location and we'll take care of the rest."
"Right," Jase said, still processing everything.
"I'll make sure she lacks nothing, and for that, I'll use you as a channel."
"I understand."
"Don't mess this up, Jase. DeeDee spoke highly of you."
"I won't disappoint you, sir."
"I hope not," Mr. Innis said, looking at the lawyer. They prepared to leave. As they did, the lawyer returned and said, "You might want to use this card with Cesar. I have a feeling he might need further clarification."
"Might?" Mr. Innis questioned, and then the two left.
