Chapter 7

Chapter 7

Jayden.

First period, R.E (religious education), was boring - as per usual - but that didn't stop me from keeping an eye out for Lexi. Now I know what you're thinking and it's not like that. Really. It's not! It was my duty to make sure that the vampire didn't harm anyone - being a werewolf and all. I was actually surprised that I didn't want to rip the fangs from her mouth and drive a stake through her heart like we were supposed to do if in the same room as each other.

Second period was Geography - which I happen to stuck at, badly, - and then my least favourite lesson of the day, Math. So far, 3 classes and I still haven't seen her! I can't stop thinking about the last thing she said to me 'It was really nice meeting you Jayden - I mean it'. I'd never heard or expected words so sincere to come out of a vampires mouth.

I'd have to think about it some more later but right now, I had to focus on my food in front of me because she just walked through the canteen opening. She seemed to hover at the doorway for a second and then started off towards Hannah and Chelsea.

Why would she hang out with the geek-freak and her little minion, Goth Girl? Really, I shouldn't be judging. I was half wolf and enemy to vampires. But Hannah was a complete nerd and Chelsea was insulting everyone all the time and a full-on, creepy Goth.

"I swear to God, if you kick me one more time, I will strangle you!" I heard Chelsea yell and I rolled my eyes. What are they arguing about this time?

I purposely blocked their conversation out. It wouldn't be Tuesday if they didn't have an argument. I glanced over at Lexi to find that her posture had stiffened. She turned her head and gasped. I followed her where she was looking and my brows furrowed. Aaron? Maybe they knew each other? But I thought she just moved down here?

A sharp sense of jealousy took over me but I shook it off before it took control and I did something that I regretted. Like, say for instance, I go to Aaron and knock ten bells out of him for getting the attention of Lexi. Or go up to Lexi and confront her, ask her why she reacted the way she had. I know it sounds ridiculous but I had the sudden urge to protect her and I didn't particularly like the way she looked when she saw Aaron. It looked somewhere in between happy and scared and it was the scared part that made me uneasy.

"Jay?" I felt someone touch my arm and I twisted round at an unnatural speed and grabbed the hand before it could touch me again.

My eyes widened in shock as I realised that I'd grabbed my best friend, Callum, and his face was twisted in a state of shock and pain. I immediately dropped his hand and tried to stammer an apology.

"Dude, relax. Oh wait, I forgot - you're not familiar with the term are you? It's okay, Callum can help you understand the terms. We start by clearing your mind. Forget everything. Everything! Then slow your heart rate down. You know? Close your eyes, taking deep breaths in," he over exaggerated a gasp, "and out."

He brought his hands down as he release the air he was holding, "Now, wait here whilst I go and get your medication - I think someone forgot to take their looney pills." He laughed, shaking his head, whilst I glared at him. "I thought we agreed that we wouldn't space out anymore." He said and I slumped with relief.

How could it be, after all these years of being my best friend, that he still didn't know or suspect anything?

"I'm fine." I picked up a French fri and ate it. It wasn't nearly as good as the delicious meaty hamburger that I was about to savagely rip into but I couldn't just eat meat all the time - I'd be classed as weird and that is so not what I need right now.
