Hey guys! Like I promised, this chapter is longer and more interesting than last the chapter. Anyway, hope you enjoy it...
Chapter 8
Lexi
My nail grew longer as they gripped the table. I knew Aaron. I'd known him for years. Years. I turned back around to face him. He looked older. Well, of course he looked older, he was old. And I mean old.
As if sensing my presence, his head snapped up and those eyes, blacker than black, stared into mine. His almost blonde hair stood straight up, in what I thought was called a quiff?, and a black beanie hung on his head. He was halfway in the line to get food. I'd say we had 5 minutes, tops, before he had to decide where to sit.
I whipped my head around and faced a questioning Hannah and Chelsea. "What?" I asked.
Hannah's eyes furrowed. "Are you ok?"
No, a person from my past has shown up and completely ruined everything I'd ever known. "Of course."
We sat in silence for a minute before Chelsea's mouth dropped open. "Oh my God!" Her eyes were wide as she stared behind me. I followed her gaze to see Trina's arms around Jayden. I don't know why but it felt like someone had ripped into my chest and pulled out my dead, not beating, heart. I shook it off and turned to face them.
"I don't get it." I bluffed. It hurt, I'll admit that, but he was a human and I was a vampire.
Chelsea's hands slammed onto the table. "That little slut! As if! I can't! I just can't!"
Hannah looked at Chelsea in surprise and nudged her shoulder. "Mind keeping it down a little? I know you like Callum but this is getting way out of hand."
I looked back over my shoulder to see the boy sat across from Jayden shamelessly staring at Trina as she swayed her hips, walking away from the table. "Who's Callum?"
Chelsea's pink hair whipped across her face as she abruptly stared at me, then Hannah, then me again.
Hannah laughed and pointed to Jayden's companion. "That's Callum Hart."
"Yeah, the hottest guy in school!" Chels added, eyes shining.
"Who's the hottest guy in school?" A familiar voice called out from behind me. I stiffened my posture and let out a deep, quiet growl. Something about his presence made me feel threatened. I slowly turned around and there he was.
"A-ah...Aaron?" Hannah stuttered in utter disbelief. His eyes flashed in her direction before he dismissed her and turned back to me.
"You look really familiar." He started in a smooth voice. It sent shivers down my spine.
Nerves gathered in the pit of my stomach.
"I-I-I do?"
He studied me for a minute before replying. "Yes, a...childhood friend."
"Over here Lexi, over here!" His boyish tone rang out. "Come and find me!"
My head snapped up to find his long legs carrying the 8 year old away.
"That is not fair!" I pouted. "You are faster than me, Aaron!"
He turned around and stuck his tongue out at me, running faster and pulling silly faces whilst I tried, and failed, to catch up. "Run faster then, short legs."
In the end, I gave up and dropped to the floor. Tears threatening to spill. He was always so mean to me: running off, knowing that I couldn't catch him, and making fun of me. He turned around, saw that I was defeated and pumps his fist into the air, shouting his victory. That was enough for me to cry. Tears spilled down my cheeks as I wailed.
