Hey guys! I know that it will take me a while to do the next chapters so I wrote another chapter and uploaded them on the same day to make up for it. This is a small chapter but there will be a lot of them so don't worry. I don't plan on this being like a 20 part story, I'm planning on this to be a 50 part story, so don't go anywhere. Anyway, hope you enjoy...
Chapter 4
Lexi.
Jayden. So that was his name? It suited him. I couldn't help but feel a little bit jealous that he didn't know mine but I could easily change that.
It was so sweet about him being worried for his mother. I had a feeling that it was just a cover up with the way his hesitated and then said his answer as a question but when he was talking about her being ill, he seemed as though the thought of the possibility alone was heart breaking for him. Clearly his mother was someone he showed great respect to. And that's hard to find in a teenager.
He seemed on the edge of his seat as the teacher was calling out the register and I hoped he was listening for my name. Don't be stupid, that annoying voice in my head said again, he doesn't even know you and who would be interested in a vampire anyway? I sighed and waited for my teacher to finish calling out names.
Carmen Willow was the last person on the list and as soon as he said her name, it struck me that he hadn't called out mine. I was instantly pissed at him and got up from my seat. Walking over to his desk, I read his thoughts.
Hope she's ok...doctor said she's not got that long left...stupid school...want to be with my wife...only 6 more hours left, yay...not...Jayden showing me up like that how dare he!
My hatred towards him lessened as I approached his desk, especially when I saw the bags forming under his eyes, but the fact that he talked about Jayden that way really made my anger boil right back up.
"And who are you?" He said and he sounded exhausted. I rolled my eyes, annoyed at the fact that he was taking his moodiness out on me, and walked so I was stood in front of the students still gawking at me. I took a very long and very deep breath.
"Hello. My name is Lexi Moore and I'm your new classmate." I said and glanced towards Jayden to find him smiling at me. Smi-ling-at-me. It sent bats doing backflips in my stomach and a wave of satisfaction came over me - knowing that he knew my name now.
"Lexi Moore," the teacher echoed and I turned to him. He scanned his register and then looked at me with sorry eyes.
"Please forgive me, I thought it was a typo error. I knew I had a new student starting but I wasn't expecting you 'till next week." He said and even though we were in America, he had a rich British accent that I had only just noticed.
"Believe me, it's ok. I wasn't expecting to come here until next week either," I lied, "But we moved a week earlier and the council said that they don't approve of me not going to school for a week and I have to agree - I love school." I was sucking up to the teacher but I thought that it was better to get on his good books.
"I've had exceptional recommendations for you Miss Moore. Let's just hope you live up to them." He said and looked at me curiously, as if all he could expect from students was mischief.
I nodded and walked even closer to his desk. I leaned in ever so slightly. "I'm sorry about your wife. I hope she gets better soon." He looked at me with wide eyes and was about to say something when I looked into his eyes. "You didn't hear me say anything. I'm a new student that enrolled today and you will let us all go 5 minutes early." His eyes glazed over and he nodded. I smiled with relief and walked back to my table with a bounce in my step. As I sat down, I chanced another quick look at Jayden and felt my breathing falter when he sent me a dazzling smile that would make girls faint. I gave him a smile back and his grew even wider.
"Hello." I whispered, barely audible, knowing that he couldn't hear me.
"Hi." He replied and I snapped my head up instantly, wondering how he could've heard me. I looked around the room to see if anyone else was speaking to me but most students were half asleep and those who weren't, weren't looking at me.
"You can hear me?" I whispered in disbelief, setting my eyes on Jayden."Yeah, and judging by the look on your face, I'd say that you can hear me too."
Smart boy, I thought. "How is this possible? I'm speaking so low that I'm even struggling to hear." I said and looked at him again but he was focused on looking forward.
"Same," he started, "Maybe you just have really sensitive hearing like I do."
"Probably." Though I knew that wasn't the case. "So, who was that-" I got cut off when Mr Greyson abruptly stood up and told us all we could leave 5 minutes early. Everyone's faces were priceless as they tried to get their heads around why the most strictest teacher, in possibly the whole world, would let them out early. Well, I didn't need anymore encouragement.
"Freedom." I said and walked out the door.
I heard a chair scrape against the floor and footsteps running after me.
"Wait up!" A voice said behind me and I tried to suppress a smile but failed.
I continued to walk until I got to my locker when I halted so suddenly that he bumped into me. But that contact was enough to send bolts of energy down to my toes and I was sure he felt it too because he looked at me with a confused face and took a step back. I shivered inwardly. It felt as if someone had passed electricity through me but I was somehow immune to its shocking. It felt like a tidal wave of emotions had just surfed over me and it felt right.
"Yes?" I questioned innocently as I turned around.
"We need to talk." He said bluntly but hushed and I could practically feel the nervousness radiating off him - like he was just finding enough courage to confront me.
"You've seen me for how long? 20-25 minutes and already you're hitting on me?" I teased but all the colour drained from his face.
"No - I didn't - that's not what I - I mean -" he stuttered and I laughed.
"Chillax. I was messing with you," he gave me a glare which suggested that he didn't find that funny at all and I straightened my back. "So seriously, what do you want to talk about?"
"Why you could hear me. Why I could hear you. Why the teacher let us out 5 minutes earlier." Damn, I thought.
"Trust me, you do not want to go there." I said and looked at him.
"I trust you." He said back, almost like a robot, and I realised what I'd done.
"No. Shit. Fuck." I said, pacing in front of him for a second. "I didn't mean to compel you - that's not how I wanted to make friends. I don't want you to trust me because I'm making you - I want you to trust me from knowledge."
I spun around to face him. "I'm so sorry. You, out of all people, were on my list of not compelling. I swear. What am I going to do?" I panicked and started pacing backwards and forwards again. I have an idea, I thought to myself. "Once again, I'm so sorry." I gripped his shoulders and looked into his eyes, "Forget this conversation, forget meeting me. I'm the new girl in your form and you followed me out here because you were curious to ask me questions about me." I said and released him.
Instantly, he shot up and smiled.
"Hi, you must be the new girl. I'm Jayden Barrack," he held out his palm, "Nice to meet you."
I smiled and took his hand, "I'm Lexi Moore," I gave his hand a shake, "Nice to meet you too." Thank God, I thought, close call.
Ok, that was a rubbish chapter but the next chapter might take me a week to complete but please favourite and vote. I can't believe that I already have nearly 40 views and it hasn't been up for more than a day and a half, tops. Thank you so much and until next time, love ya all, bye xx
