Chapter 17

Lexi

I stared at Hannah and wondered what she meant by that. Was she implying that her house was also secretly a vampire?

Nah. That was ridiculous, even for me.

After I'd stepped foot inside her house, it was like something had washed over me. Not like liquid but like electricity, kind of like when I bumped into Jayden yesterday. But this new presence felt...off. Like it didn't want me there. I know it sounds crazy but, what I can't explain it any other way.

"What?" Hannah said abruptly.

I shook this feeling off and muttered 'nothing' under my breath. When did she get this bitchy?

I followed her up the long, spiral staircase which lead to a picture-less hallway. Her room was massive, not to sound stereotypical but it was like three times the size of my bedroom. And I lived in a mansion.

She threw herself on her bed and gave me a pointed look.

"So, you're a vampire. Cool. Were you planning on biting me?" She was so straight to the point and blunt about it that I didn't know what to say for a couple of seconds.

I shook my head fast. "Oh, God no! I rarely go hunting, I usually have a blood smoothie or blood from a donor."

Hannah's head tilted to the side as she regarded me. "What's a blood smoothie?"

How could I put this?

"Well, have you ever watched TrueBlood?" She gave a curt nod. "Well, it's kinda like that. We found a way to harvest animal blood and mix in a few ingredients to make it have the same effect as human blood. It satisfies our hunger but we are stronger with human blood."

"Eww." Was the reply I got.

"It's not the best thing out there, I agree, but it's better than going on a blood craze and murdering an entire city now, isn't it?" I asked.

After a moment of silence, Hannah let out a sigh. It wasn't a happy sigh, it was an I'm-fed-up-of-this sigh.

"How old are you?"

"What?" I asked, dumbfounded for a second.

"How. Old. Are. You?" Eyebrow raised, she stood up from her bed and looked me up and down. "Look about 16, 17 at the most, but then again, you don't age."

I took in her stance. Legs shoulder width apart, arms crossed, eyes now narrowed. She meant business. If I was human I might have been intimidated.

Pity I'm not.

"Well, I'm 17. Only just." I mirrored her image, just to watch her reaction. But she didn't cave, surprisingly, and tilted my head, following the humans every move.

"And how long have you been 17?"

I faltered. Hold up. Did she...did she...just?

"Did you just quote 'Twilight'?"

"Yeah, what of it?" Suddenly getting defensive, she readjusted her stance.

"Well I live in the real world where vampires burn in the sun." I fired back with a challenging stare.

"Did you just quote 'The Vampire Diaries'?" She asked with an amused smile.

"Yeah, what of it?" I mimicked her from earlier. "Damon is queen."

We stood in silence for a minute or two just taking each other in, waiting for someone to make the first move.

That was until someone who very much looked like Hannah came bursting through the door. Very, very much like Hannah, except she was panting and pointing down the corridor. Like, identical looking.
