Nightmare Becomes Reality

Chapter 1

Chad and Jeremy came back to their apartment building to find Chad's apartment torn to shreds.

Meg was nowhere to be found, but there was a note.

"Meg?" Chad called.

No answer. Where was she?

"Chad... if Meg was ever in your apartment today, she's had a pretty bad day" said Jeremy eyeing the apartment's disheveled appearance.

"Never mind my apartment. Where is she?" said Chad.

"Did you see her at all today?" said Jeremy.

"Yes. We were together all last night" said Chad.

"Then did you ever think she was working, eh?" said Jeremy.

"No, she said she had the day off" said Chad.

"And I'm certain she doesn't spend her days off smashing up the place" said Jeremy.

"Of course not. She's probably the most organized woman I know" said Chad.

"Something's definitely off here, Chad the lad" said Jeremy.

"I know!" Chad snapped.

Jeremy shifted his gaze to the side as if he was shocked at Chad's heated response.

"I'm sorry. I'm just worried about Meg" said Chad.

"I am too. Well... first thing's first. Perhaps we should actually look for her. If she's not answering there's a remote possibility she's hurt" said Jeremy.

"Blimey, I hope she isn't" said Chad.

The two men looked for Meg, but they never found her.

"Find her, Jeremy?" said Chad.

"No, no sign of her. You?" said Jeremy.

"Not a thing. She might be lost" said Chad.

"Lost where?" said Jeremy.

"I don't know. That's why we say 'lost'." said Chad.

He and Jeremy tried to find clues as to where Meg could be.

Jeremy eventually found the note on the coffee table.

"Chad. This might tell us where she is" he said.

"What's it say?" said Chad.

"What's black, white and red all over?" Jeremy read.

"Riddles? Let me see now. What's black... white and red... all over?" said Chad.

"Well, isn't it obvious? The newspaper" said Jeremy.

"What does the newspaper have to do with Meg?" said Chad.

"There's more. What has leaves and branches but no bark?" said Jeremy.

"Oh, blimey. This one's hard" said Chad.

"I think we know who to call at a time like this" said Jeremy.

"I think so too" said Chad.
