Nightmare Becomes Reality

Chapter 14

Sam kept going down her path and came to two more riddles on the wall.

"What's another word to describe burger meat?" one of them said.

"Hmm. Patties" said Sam.

Then she read the other one.

"What is another word for street that rhymes with distain?"

"Gawrsh, this is too easy. Lane" said Sam.

Just then, she heard creepy laughter.

She turned around fast and she saw a plot twist of a face.

It wasn't the Riddler she saw but the Joker.

"Joker! You fiend!" she said.

"Sam Pan-Cook! We meet again. I believe the last time I heard your name was from your husband" said the Joker.

"What did you do to him?!" Sam gasped.

"Nothing. Absolutely nothing. He's perfectly safe. But you'll never find him" said the Joker.

"Never? I've been most everywhere. I'll find him" said Sam.

"Oh, of course. Except for the fact that as your man remains lost, I grow stronger. In fact, that's why the kidnappings have happened, dearie. So now you'll never defeat us" said the Joker.

"How do you come up with new ways to commit crime?" said Sam.

"No one knows. That's why I'm number one" the Joker cackled.

He was about to throw knockout gas at Sam, but she dodged.

"You're quicker than you look" said the Joker.

"What good does anything from you do?" said Sam.

"Just this. I know what happened to your fellow Warrior scum. Who are you working with now?" said the Joker.

"I'm not telling you a thing!"

"You're scared? You're really scared that I'd harm a good girl like you?" 

"It'll be a cold day in august before I'm afraid of you!"

"Good. Then if you tell me who you're working with, you're free to go"

"Fine. I'm working with Robin! Happy now?" Sam shouted.

"The Boy Wonder? It's just you two?" said the Joker.

"Yeah" 

The Joker let his grin grow wider.

"What is it?" said Sam.

"Never you mind, child. As I'm a man of my word, you're free to go" said the Joker.

Sam rushed in the other direction to find Robin.

"This changes things" the Joker mumbled.
