What if Vi and Caitlyn had met as

Children?...

Caitlyn was 15 and Vi just a year younger.

Grayson had introduced them in The Lanes one day. I guess she thought they'd get along. And left them to chat as she met with Vander.

"What's a top sider doing down here?" Vi asked.

"I'll have you know I'm an enforcer in training."

"Really?! Aren't you a little young?"

"I am not!" Caitlyn let out a little laugh. Her eyes gleamed like shiny blue stones.

"Oh man you almost had me there." Vi scratched her head. She motioned to the ladder that led to the rooftops. She started to climb, "come on, it's a better view from up there." She reached down to Caitlyn's small hand and brought her up onto the roof.

"So what are you really doing here Cupcake?"

"My name's Caitlyn." She brushed at her coat then sat down beside Vi.

"And mine's Vi, nice to meet you future enforcer." She held out her hand and they shook diplomatically. Vi laughed again and Caitlyn followed.

"Well, I guess I'm sort of Grayson's apprentice or well maybe her intern. She wanted to show me the lanes before I dive into a few cases. Well cold cases she said I can look them over..."

"Oh so you're a detective then. Nice." Vi snarked, but really she was intrigued. "I'm sort of a brawler myself."

Now Caitlyn laughed but noticed Vi frown. Vi was quite a lot smaller than herself. Then her eyes looked down to Vi's knuckles bloodied and bandaged. "Oh, you're serious?"

"Yeah I am, I'm the best fighter this side of the river, well besides my old man." She looked off in the distance.

"Why do you fight?"

"I guess to keep my family safe. My little sister is no fighter and my brothers are alright, but I've got to look out for us."

"Oh right. Don't you have your old man for that though?"

"Vander is great, he's taught me everything I know, and took us in. But he's a busy man. Someone's got to be strong when he's not around. It's real ruff living down here ya know. Everyone steals and scrapes by to survive."

"That sounds awful."

"It's not all bad. We have a lot of fun too. And some of the best views." She nudged Caitlyn's shoulder with hers. Pointing to the sunset.

"Wow, that is. I don't know that I've ever seen it look so beautiful." Caitlyn explained with wide eyes.

Vi's breath caught in her throat for just a minute as she peered at the girl beside her. She shook the thought away and stood up.

"Yeah... Hey, you want to play some games? We have a shooting range–"

"Oh yes please!"

"Really?! Ok come on!" Vi grabbed Caitlyn's hand and started leading them across a few rooftops. They laughed a lot and started to enjoy each other's company more. Who the hell was this girl? Was all the other could muster in their tiny awe-struck brains.

They were met by Vi's little blue haired sister Powder at the shooting range. She gave Vi a kind of funny look. "Vi, who the hell is this? A Piltie?!" She whispered.

"Oh she's alright Pow-Pow she's a friend of Gayson's." Vi ruffled Powder's hair.

"Hi I'm Caitlyn." She reached her hand out but Powder placed a pistol in it instead.

"You any good?" Powder smirked.

"Uh, yeah." She cleared her throat, "Yes I am."

"Huh, prove it... first one to 20 wins."

"Okay."

They each grabbed a pistol with different colored paint loaded. Powder had neon blue, Vi had hot pink, and Caitlyn held a violet purple at the ready.

"Ready?" Vi asked and the others nodded. She stomped a foot switch and the game bustled to life.

Targets popped up in each direction, moved and danced and spun around in several rows. This was exciting, Caitlyn thought.

Powder started to yell, but Caitlyn interrupted, "20!"

Both Powder and Vi dropped their arms and looked at her in between them.

"No way, I was only at 10." Vi scratched her head.

"I had 18." Powder looked off disappointed but turned to look at her opponent. "You sure you hit all 20?"

"Sure, did. You could count if you like."

"Alright I will." She jumped behind the counter and started marking off hits. Caitlyn got a little nervous.

"What? Did you cheat?" Vi whispered.

"No, no I just.. I didn't want her to feel bad."

"Why?"

"I hit more than 20..."

"You serious?!"

"I'm kind of an excellent shot, I've been shooting since I was 6." Caitlyn said with a smirk.

"34?!" Powder Jumped back over the counter. "How?" She was excited and frustrated, her mind was literally blown. "Show me how you did that!" She smiled at the Pilltie girl towering over her.

"Well alright I can try, but you know I've been doing this a while..." Caitlyn lined up a few shots and showed how one shot could hit two targets.

Vi stepped back and watched Caitlyn in slow motion with her sister. Powder hadn't looked at anyone like that other than her before. She smiled. This Piltie was something else. She was different.

It was getting late so Vi started to walk Caitlyn back to the Last Drop.

"That was really great Vi, thank you."

"You're an alright shot Cupcake."

"Why are you calling me that?" She punched VI's shoulder lightly.

"Ouch." Vi giggled, "I thought you were sweet like a cupcake, but damn." She pretended to rub her sore arm.

"Oh what happened to that big bad fighter?" They laughed. Caitlyn's hand reached over for Vi's shoulder again this time holding it gently.

"I mean it, thanks for showing me around, I had a great time. Really." Caitlyn shied away putting her hand back to her head, running her fingers behind her ear through her deep indigo hair.

"Thanks for dropping by Cupcake. Will I see you again soon?" Vi stepped in a little closer.

"Um yeah. I mean do you want to?... Ya know see me again that is?" Caitlyn asked a little happy but she was trying not to sound too excited.

"Heh, yeah Caitlyn I'd like that." Vi chuckled, switching the weight between her feet.

"Okay, I'll arrange to come back soon. Maybe meet me on the west bridge in a couple of days. At sunset?"

"Ok." Vi smiled at her, she held her hand up to wave but Caitlyn grabbed her in for a hug. Vi froze in a bit of shock. She had never known anyone like this. After a moment she returned the embrace. They lingered for just a minute then Cait let with a bit of red rising to her cheeks.

"Right. Bye!" Caitlyn waved then quickly turned around, hiding her face. She walked with Grayson into the night.

Vi stood smiling, shaking her head slightly. She watched her Piltover Princess fade away out of view but definitely not out of mind.
