Babysitting

It's been ten years since I met Vi. Ten hard but wonderful years that we've been together. Things have finally started to feel more normal lately. We've been able to have so much time to ourselves. The crimes we investigate now are petty. I've been sheriff for a few years now and can set our own schedule which is incredibly nice. Vi's the best partner too which helps every day go smoothly and faster.

Jinx has been improving at her facility. We had to customize one just for her, but she can now have a decent conversation. She's under heavy guard and constant medication. Vi visits her every week and now seems pretty happy about her progress. And Ekko has even settled down and started a family a couple years ago. I truly never thought life could be this great. This simple.

"Hey Cupcake." Vi enters our home with a smug smile across her face. She hands over a sparkly cupcake and winks.

"Uhh... what do you want?" I let out a very skeptical chuckle eyeing her.

"Umm, so Ekko asked if we could-"

"Oh no! Don't even-"

"Come on Babe it's their anniversary and they're out of sitters!" She looked at me with those puppy eyes.

"Ugh, really? You know I'm terrible with kids."

"Please!!! Come on it'll be fun..." she ran her hand along my arm. "Ya know I can make anything fun..." she quipped raising her eyebrows multiple times.

"Good Lord, you've already said yes haven't you?" I twitched my face at her, "Oh... alright, but-"

"Yes!" ... she squealed then gave me a quick hard kiss on the cheek, "I told him we could babysit at 6."

"What have you gotten us into Vi?"

"Oh come on it'll be fun... also we have a bit of time before then...." She walked her fingers to my hand interweaving them together. "So you wanna?..." raising her eyes and eyebrows now up the stairs to our room.

"Hmmmfff.... You're not getting off that easy. But now that I think of it there are a few ways you could make it up to me." I led her by the collar up to our room...

Far too soon the doorbell rang. Vi literally ran to the door. She was enjoying this so much. It made me laugh at the site.

"Hey man! Yeah the little squirt can stay the night sure. See you tomorrow! Don't have too much fun!" She hurried and slammed the door. Turning around with her arm full of things and a baby - maybe he was just about a year old - in the other arm.

"Look how cute he is?!" Her eyes about burst out of her head and I swear I saw little fireworks go off around her face. Oh my gods she's enamored. No she's baby hungry?! Oh no, what have I done.

"Umm yeah he's alright." I tried to play it cool, but secretly I was freaking out.

"Yeah you wanna hold him while I-"

"No no, I'll set up his things. Besides he looks very comfortable with you." I said brushing them along to the living room. I scooped up this enormous pile of items that surely no human being could possibly need. A travel bed, bag of clothes, bag of food, bag of toys, 3 blankets, an extra change of clothes, a bag of diapers, a baby bath, bath toys and finally a lovey plush poro toy. "How did they get this all here? He's only staying one night right?" I asked. Vi just shrugged and went back to talking to this little lump in her arms. He coo'd back at her and giggled as she made faces. Damn it why'd she have to be so cute...

I finally finished setting everything up and we took turns watching over the little bloke. He was kind of a curious little thing. And if I'm being totally honest he wasn't that bad. Until Vi had to use the restroom and so did he. Ugh...
