Ekko's Invention

Vi has been going to the Firelight's hide out every day this week. She'd arrive home late but smiling from ear to ear. What on earth were they up to? Finally on Sunday I just had to know.

"Vi?"

"Yeah Babe?" She was working on tuning her gauntlets with a few screwdrivers and manual in front of her.

"Are you going to see Ekko again tonight?"

"Oh yeah in a little bit. Hey you should come with me!"

"Uh well, yes that's exactly what I was thinking." I smiled with a little chuckle rubbing the back of my neck.

Vi brought me fairly quickly to the hide out. She has figured out a few shortcuts and scooped me up for a few little kisses along the way. She was acting surprisingly excited and happily whistled a few times. I loved seeing her so happy but what was this all about? What should I be expecting?

The doors to the hideout flew open with Ekko throwing a wave to both of us.

"Oh good you brought her."

"Yeah. Hey little man. I think it's ready right?"

"Uh, what's ready?" I asked trying to not sound too suspicious.

"Heh let me show you..." Ekko motioned to another room.

"Ok Cait so Ekko and I have been working on this for a while. It's a little rough around the edges but I think we finally got the design down."

"Hmm yeah you could say it's rough."

"Dude I'm not the inventor here just the test driver."

"What are you driving??"

We stepped into the threshold and stopped. 

"Oh, ahhh. What is it exactly?"

"Babe it's a cycle!"

"Like a bicycle?"

"Ha no no, it has gears and chem tech like the hoverboards."

"Heimerdinger helped me hammer out the finishing touches on it." Ekko piped up. "We have more fine tuning to do, but it's not bad as it is."

"You wanna take it for a spin?"

"Uh..."

"Come on I'll drive." Vi pulled my hand along to the bike.

"Ok so I knew flying was just too tricky for you but this stays on the ground. I thought we could make a pair of them eventually. It would make our patrols go so much faster."

"Huh that actually isn't a bad ide— ahhh!"

Vi blasted the damn thing to tremendous speed in no time at all.

"Oh my Gods this is ... so much fun!" My stomach turned in knots then adrenaline and endorphins flooded my brain like I didn't have a care in the world. I held tightly to Vi's abdomen and she throttled it into yet another gear. By this time we had reached the river incredibly fast. She started driving down the banks towards the coast. She let up on the accelerator some and settled into cruising just taking it all in.

"Ha, I'm glad you like it Cupcake."

"Vi it's brilliant. Wow. Thanks for sharing this with me. I was a little worried you've been spending so much time down here. I didn't realize this is what you've been up to."

"Yeah well, I saw them working on it last month and immediately thought of you." She turned off the bike setting us at a cliff overlooking the bay.

"Thanks love." I rested my head on her shoulder as it began to get a little dark.

"Ok now it's your turn."

"What?! No I - uh."

"Come on you're so focused all the time this will be a piece of cake."

"Ummm, can I make up a good excuse not to? Like I love holding on to you more?" I tried to get out of it with charm but it wasn't working.

"Hmm I think I love holding you more. Besides the thought is that this could be yours. You have so many places to be. And this could make your job so much easier." She kissed my cheek then grabbed my hand helping me feel the controls. She showed me the basics and helped me start it up.

"K let me get us far away from the cliff side then you can give it a try..."

I started to get a little nervous but she calmed me down rubbing my hands tightly holding her middle.

We stopped and shifted positions while she held the bike steady. "Ok slowly ease into the throttle super slow ok?" The bike lurched a little forward and I squeaked letting it go back to idle. "Oh that's good but don't let go of that clutch so fast it's touchy. Ok put it in first gear." She got on behind me.

"Just hold it steady like that this time. She reached holding my hands under hers. She was standing up behind me now placing her head over my shoulder. Her hair tickled by cheek a little. I loved that calm smile on her face. She helped me ease the bike into a slow roll in a very straight line then let go of my hands. She slowly sat back down.

"Yeah babe you're doing it!" Balance was a whole other thing but we slowly kept it upright and moving. "Now go a little faster. Just a bit." She held me close and put her head on my shoulder again.

"Like this?"

"Mhm just like that. Easy, easy... yeah that's it!"

I was so fuckin' nervous but felt so safe with her. I always did.

"I think I'm going to need a booster seat back here." She laughed and gave me a kiss on the cheek.

"Well I think you can do most of the driving Love."

"Come on kick it up a notch."

"Are you sure? I'm not-"

"Yeah you got this. You're a quick study, just believe in yourself ok."

"Mmm ok." I closed one eye.

"Keep your eyes open!" She laughed, I chuckled too. This was actually not bad. And I was happy that Vi was so satisfied with herself and pushed me out of my comfort zone.

"Uh Vi?" I yelled back.

"Yeah?"

"Where's the brakes?"

"Haha!" she rotated my right hand back slowing us perfectly. " I wouldn't let anything happen to you Cupcake."

"Hmm I know."
