"Your sister!?"
"Yeah. Sorry we never told you sooner."
"Wait? How does she not know?" Maria asked.
Everyone stayed silent.
"Uh...hey! Why don't we go tell everyone that their princess has returned!" Silver said.
Maria grinned.
"Sounds good to me!"
Everyone soon arrived at Lion grounds.
"Ladies and Gentlemen! Thank you for coming here on such short notice. Today, we have a very special guest who has returned to our home after so many years!"
"Welcome back, Princess Maria!"
Maria walked next to him as everyone gasped.
Everyone was shocked and they whispered to each other.
"I am home my friends! I have escaped the Outsiders that forced me into hiding for all these years but now that I am back, I will promise to be prepared for anything that is thrown at us!"
Everyone cheered as you and your friends smiled at this.
"It's good to have her back." Shadow said.
"But I still don't understand something. How come you guys didn't tell her who I was?" Y/N asked.
"Do you really want her to find out that we just welcome a brand new member who is a non-shapeshifter?" Knuckles asked.
You realized that he was right.
"Well, what are we gonna do?"
"As long as she doesn't suspect anything, you'll be fine." Blaze said.
Maria came down and went towards Shadow.
"I've missed you so much Shadow. We should catch up."
Shadow nodded and said,
"Sounds good to me."
Shadow held her hand as they walked away.
You felt happy for him but at the same time, you felt sad because he might not want to spend time with you anymore.
"You ok Y/N?" Silver asked.
"Huh? Oh I'm fine! Just got lost in thought."
"I know it hasn't been an exciting day but how about we continue on your mission?"
You nodded, thinking it would be a good idea to keep your mind off Shadow for awhile.
Later, you were practicing your shapeshifting training until Shadow and Maria showed up.
"Hey Y/N." Shadow smiled slightly as you smiled back.
"Hi Shadow."
"So Y/N, I forgot to ask, what animal can you shapeshift into?"
You gulped slightly, not sure what to say.
Maria looked at you confused until Shadow answered.
"She's a late bloomer."
Maria looked at you suspiciously.
You stood still, sweating a bit as she glared a bit but then she suddenly smiled.
"Oh! That explains it! Scourge was a late bloomer as well. I honestly think he would end up as a mouse or something." Maria said with a laugh.
Shadow chuckled a bit as you laughed nervously.
"Well I hope you find your animal spirit. I believe it will be wonderful!"
"Yeah...I hope so too..." You said, looking the other way.
"Say Shadow, what do you say we do some hunting!?" Maria asked.
Shadow looked at you for a minute and then back at Maria.
"I think I'll pass. Y/N is still new here and I might spend some time with her. Maybe later tonight?"
"Sure! No problem! See you later Shadow!"
She gave him a big hug as he hugged back.
You didn't know why but you felt slightly uncomfortable by this as she finally pulled away and walked off.
Shadow looked at you and said,
"I want to thank you for letting me hang out with her for awhile. Sorry I left so soon."
"Oh it's ok. I understand."
Shadow smiled and gave you a small hug. You blushed slightly and hugged him back.
"He's so warm." You blushed at your own thoughts as he pulled away slowly.
"Hey guys!"
You and Shadow turned your heads and saw Sonic running towards them.
"Check out what we found!"
"Is it the other half of your brain?" Shadow asked.
Sonic glared at him.
"Very funny Shadow. But seriously! Come on!" Sonic said as he ran off.
"We can see what it is real quick if you want." Y/N said.
"Fine but it better be worth it." Shadow said as he started walking with Y/N.
