You went to go look for Shadow when suddenly, you spotted him with Maria. You were about to walk away to give them space but then you heard them talking about the outsiders, so you began to listen.
"What are we gonna do now Shadow? The Outsiders are getting close into finding our home."
"We'll figure something out. Don't worry."
"Maybe we should do something about it. They have to give up at some point."
"As much as I would love for that to happen, I'm not exactly sure if it will.",
"Well I need to have a chat with Scourge about this situation. I don't want you to get hurt again."
"I'll be fine. They weren't even close to our home when they came. We'll be fine."
"If you say so. I just want you to be careful."
"You don't have to worry about me. I'm just worried about you."
"You're so caring Shadow. Thank you."
"No problem."
They gave each other a hug and then Maria walked off.
You watched her leave as you stood there in silence. Before you could move, Shadow cleared his throat and said,
"Why were you spying on us?"
You turned your head and saw Shadow as he raised an eyebrow.
"I-I wasn't spying!"
"Then what were you doing this whole time?"
"Uh..." You tried to come up with an excuse but you couldn't think of anything.
"That's what I thought."
"I'm so sorry. I wasn't planning to. I was gonna see if you were available but you were busy with Maria and I was about to leave but I heard you talking about the outsiders."
"Hmm..."
"By the way, Why do you guys hate each other anyway?"
Shadow looked around a bit and then back at you.
"Follow me."
Shadow turned into a tiger and ran off.
"Shadow! Wait!" He was already gone as you groaned.
"Great..."
About 10 minutes later, Shadow was waiting for you to arrive as you were still walking towards his direction.
"What took you so long?" He asked.
"Do I have to answer?"
Shadow chuckled as he walked towards the really big tree. His gem scanned the hidden scanner as the tree began to transform into a door.
"Whoa."
Shadow grabbed the doorknob and went inside as you followed.
When you both went inside, You noticed that it was a huge library.
"I didn't know you guys had a library."
"We haven't been in here in years. So it's not often that we talk about it."
Shadow walked towards the statue of an Echidna and grabbed the big book that was near it.
He blew the dust off as you coughed a bit. He opened the book and went through a few pages until he finally found the page he needed.
"Are you ready?" He asked.
You nodded as he used his gem to zap the book. It began to glow as the story became a hologram and the statue came to life as it jumped into the story.
You were shocked as you watched this.
"What's happening and who is that?"
"This is how our stories are told and this is Tikal, The Queen of the Shapeshifters."
"I thought Scourge and Maria were the only rulers.
"They are but she was the true Queen of our people because she was a very rare Shapeshifter."
"What did she change into?"
"A Phoenix."
"A Phoenix!?"
Shadow nodded.
"I'll explain everything but you have to pay attention. Alright?"
You nodded as you sat down to watch the story.
"This is how the war started between the Shapeshifters and the Outsiders."
