My eyes flutter open as my head begins to pound. I look around and see that I'm on a plush white couch. Xander's in an armchair, asleep, and Angel is sleeping on a book that's on the coffee table. I snap up, the blanket against me falling to my waist.
Xander stirs, his eyes slowly fluttering open, as I push myself to my feet. I take off for the elevator, spamming the elevator button. "Come on, come on, come on!" I whisper-chant to the elevator, begging for it to come quicker.
"Ev?" Xander calls out.
"No, no, no." I whisper to myself.
"Ev, wait!" Xander calls. I continue to slam the elevator button, internally begging it to come up. "Ev, stop! You're gonna break the button!" He exclaims, pulling my arm away.
I slap his hand away. "Stay away. J-Just stay away!" I yell, keeping my arms out in case he tries to get closer.
"I want to help you." He says, but I shake my head.
"No. Just leave me alone. I want to be alone!" I yell, backing into the wall.
"The last time we left you alone, you slaughtered everyone who was at your match, Evelyn." Angel says, suddenly appearing beside Xander.
"I didn't– I lost control. I-I couldn't stop. The more I-I fed, the more I wanted." I cry, sliding down the wall and hiding my head against my knees.
"What is happening?" Xander asks.
"She's falling apart." Angel answers.
I remember everything I did. The people I slaughtered. The people I drained. The teenagers who still had a life to live. The girl who begged me not to kill her, but I did anyway.
I start to hyperventilate as the building shakes.
"Okay. We need to calm her down before she takes down the entire building." Angel says, waving her hands around in a serious gesture.
"What is this?" Xander asks, copying what she did.
"What is what?"
"This!" He says, waving his hands around again but more fiercely.
"We don't have time for this." Angel sighs before turning to me. She crouches down as I watch her. "Evelyn, we need you to calm down, so that you don't cause an earthquake strong enough to take the entire building out." She says with a fake smile.
I give her a sarcastic smile in return.
"Look, I get that you're on edge. But there is something that we really need to talk about." Xander says, crouching beside Angel.
