The look in her eyes made me feel like my heart shattered. It hurt seeing how much pain had been inflicted on her. All I want to do is take her pain away — especially the pain I've given her.
She looked so broken when I used that illusion. She looked so broken when she stood in front of me, ranting. You could see in her eyes how much pain she hid beneath the surface. How she was exhausted of life.
She needed it. She was bottling it up, and she needed to release it. So I let her, though I will admit, my approach might've been the wrong one.
I decide to check on her since it's been a few hours. I knock first, wanting to at least give her privacy, but she never answers. I figure she's still mad at me, but when I press my ear to the door, there's no sound. No movement. Complete silence.
I open the door, revealing Evelyn on the floor, completely passed out. I rush to her and pick her up bridal-style, carrying her out of the room. I take her to one of the bedrooms and lay her down on the bed.
I cover her in the blanket, moving a strand of hair away from her face that was covering it. I turn around to leave and give her space, but I'm not in the bedroom anymore.
I'm in Mystic Falls and a building is burning up in flames, screams echoing from inside.
What the hell? What happened?
I look around the dark area, three dark figures walking away from the flames. As they get closer, I recognize the leader.
Evelyn.
She doesn't look the same. She doesn't look remorseful. She looks cold, cruel. She turned it off. And set an... I read the sign that says Orphanage.
She set fire to an orphanage?! She always loved children. Which makes it clear that this isn't the original, happy Evelyn.
She turned it off.
When was this? Why doesn't she have her humanity on? Why am I seeing this?
Then, the scenery changes. The surroundings, the people, the buildings. Instead, I'm in the woods. It's a different memory.
I turn and see Evelyn throw a man's body to the ground. She wipes her mouth and turns around as an arrow is shot into her stomach. Her mouth falls open and she winces in pain. She rips it out before looking around.
Two more arrows shoot toward her — one to the side and one in front of her face — which she catches.
She yells something out into the open, but my mind can't register it. A brunette stands in front of her and her face contorts into one of annoyance. "Ah, my lovely boyfriend who never knows when to take a hint." I manage to hear, her voice drenched in sarcasm.
By the coldness in her voice, I can only assume she turned it off. I wouldn't be surprised.
Flashes of her memory surge forward and it becomes overwhelming. I open my eyes, but this time, I'm lying on the bed. I sit up and look around.
