(The first chapter is kind of shitty so just bear with it, it will get better I promise.)
Being neither an outcast nor a popular child was something that Y/n was 'known' for, which honestly hurt more than having either of those traits. She was a master at blending into social situations. She wasn't in the least bit shy, and when around certain individuals, she could even be exceptionally outgoing.
But when she moves to a school where everyone had such different personalities and friend groups were made regarding personality types, the chameleons' defence mechanism is useless against oncoming predators. And as the famous Mr Miyagi once said, 'The best defence is no be there.' As a result, the girl would skip lunch at school and hide out in a video rental shop not wanting the teenager's cruel judgement to be cast upon her.

"So, your name is Dustin. Like Steve's Dustin?" Y/n inquired, tilting her head as she vaguely remembered Steve ranting about a Dustin who had supposedly "cheated" on him with another babysitter. She later found out that this was the amusing Eddie Munson, but at this point, she only knew of him.
"Yes, and I want you to join our hellfire club!" A boy with curly brown hair smiled positively radiantly bringing more light into this world than the sun itself.
"And you are trying to tell me that this is not a satanic cult?" Y/n asked looking down at his shirt which had the words 'Hellfire Club in black print along with a devil head printed on it.
"Why does everyone keep saying that!" He huffed glancing around cautiously.
"Maybe think about rebranding."
"How old are you anyway? I could look like a pedo for all I know running around with a bunch of ten year olds!" She exclaimed crossing her arms across her chest not wanting to give in to the boy immediately to make it look like she had some form of standards. She loved the idea of D&D but she didn't want to come across as too creepy.
"I'm fifteen but that doesn't mean there aren't people your age in here, plus it's a good way for people to get to know you considering you have been here two months and still haven't made any friends."
"Are you trying to bribe me to join your cult by offering me friends," she glared down at the young boy as he squirmed under her scrutinising gaze.
"I- uh-" Dustin was not expecting her to burst out with that and had no response prepared for her oddly accurate description of their current interaction.
"Because it's working. Keep talking little dude." She broke from her serious glare and grinned at the curly haired kid.
"So, are you in?" The boy questioned, eyes full of hope and his hands clasping together in an almost begging manner.
"As long as I don't have to wear that stupid shirt."
"Deal!" He voiced shooting his hand out for her to shake eagerly awaiting their deal to be sealed like a pact with the devil roping her into something far more dangerous than just one game of D&D.
Thank god she wasn't going to make it on time.
The school day had ended and she walked over to her favourite video store. Y/n enjoyed movies, but not nearly as much as she enjoyed Steve Harrington's company. In a platonic way or not, she was fascinated with him and his awkward charisma and charm.
"Hey, Steve!" She announced as she walked into the store, Steve popped his head up from behind the counter. "If it isn't my favourite customer."
"You say that to all of the customers," Robin stated whilst rolling her eyes, only for Y/n to chuckle at the two as Steve replied to his coworker, "Shut up Robin."
