AN: This chapter is really long, like almost 30 pages. This chapter I would say is very important when it comes to Hailey and Carls relationship. It's long, but bare with it 😅

Thud...

Thud...

Thud...

I groan as my eyes open, fully awake from the sound of Carl throwing the tennis ball on the wall. I know this because the same time every morning for the past month and a half almost two, that's what he's doing and the same time every morning that's when I wake up. I sit up and rest my back on the head board to get a better view of the boy. He's standing near the foot of the bed bouncing that God forsaken ball that I wish I could chuck out the window right now, but I understand what it's for. Carl doesn't know I'm awake so I admire him for a bit, taking in all his features. He's sporting a grey T-shirt and his plaid pajama pants. His long hair sits on his shoulders and the dent in his hair is from the bandage he has over his wound.

"Carl!" I hear. It doesn't seem like Carl heard though because he keeps bouncing the ball.

Thud...

Thud...

Thud...

"Carl!" His name is shouted once more. This time Carl hears and runs out of the room not even making eye contact with me. To be honest I don't think he noticed me. I'm not surprised by that as Carls been having a hard time only seeing out of one eye. We went through the recovery process together, the good, the bad and the ugly, but Carl still spaces out from time to time and gets major headaches. I told him that I don't know how it feels, adjusting to life with half his eyesight, but I'm here for him.

After a few minutes I'm still content sitting on the bed and Carl walks in from being summoned. This time though he does notice me and cracks a small smile.

"Hey, didn't know you were up. Did I wake you?" He asks innocently.

I give him a half smile and shake my head, "No."

I didn't want him to feel like a burden as I know he's felt over the past almost two months. It's been weeks so we're estimated it to about two months since the initial accident although for me and probably Carl as well it feels like yesterday. Rick has established full leadership over Alexandria and believe it or not we haven't had any issues lately. Ally still has a disliking towards Rick as leader because she believes it should be her brother Spencer, but luckily with Randall vouching for us she's laid off the nonsense. Maggie has taken up the position of being the groups communicator, she handles any issues that may arise within the community before they need Ricks intervention. Although Rick leads us, at the end of the day we all end up coming together to make the decisions at hand. We've always been there, doing things but Ricks involved both Carl and I a lot more now, which I like.
