Summer of 1987
A year after the Vecna's downfall

Trigger warnings: assault, blood, and vecna mentions, Chrissy's death flashback

Eddie's head hurt like hell. So did his arm, which he couldn't move.

As he tried to open his eyes, everything was blinding white. It hurt and made him blink a lot. It was too bright in here.

After a minute he was able to look around, his head still pounding as he took in his surroundings. He was in a bed with white linens, and he saw a lot of doctor things.

"Jesus Christ." He muttered, he felt like he just went three rounds with the vecna. He thought he might be a little dramatic, considering he had actually been attacked by vecna and he knew that was worse. Still, his head hurt.

"Eddie, take it easy." Steve was suddenly right next to him, his hair was messy, like he had ran his hand through it too many times. And his hand a was a little shakey as he touched Eddie's noninjured arm. "Lay back okay."

Eddie wasn't in the mood to argue so he did.  He was definitely in a hospital, he noticed he was on those medical dresses that patients wore. He instantly hated it.

"Stay right here, I'm going to get a nurse."

"Don't leave, please." He wasn't sure why but he couldn't bare the idea of Steve leaving. He held on to his arm.

"I'm just going to walk to the door, okay?" Steve said, his voice soft. "I won't leave the room."

It only took a few seconds for him to call a nurse and then return to stand by the hospital bed. He grabbed Eddie's hand, careful not to hurt him.

An older woman with graying hair walked in. She was in scrubs. She gave a professional smile.

"Mr. Munson, glad to see you awake. Do you know where you are?" She ignored them holding hands.

"In a hospital" he said quickly. "Not sure which one."

"Good, we are in Hawkins Memorial. Now Mr. Munson you have a broken arm, a cracked rib, some artificial bruises and cuts. And a mild concussion, you've been in and out of consciousness for a few hours."

That explained why he felt like absolute shit.

"Can you remember what happened?"

He shook his head and immediately regretted it. It felt like a hot iron was going through his brain.

"That's alright, concussions can cause memory loss. We already set your arm and have it in a cast. You shouldn't have it on for very long, it was a very clean break. You got lucky."

It wasn't until after she left that he laughed. "Lucky. Right."

Steve made a noise in agreement. He pulled the chair closer to the bed. Steve's hand returned to Eddie's immediately. His stomach felt weird, making Eddie want to squirm around.

He closed his eyes but Steve shook his shoulder gently.

"Not yet Munson. Are you feeling alright?"

He wasn't sure how to answer that. Because he felt like shit and was really warm but he was really happy that Steve was with him. He looked over at Steve.

"Why are you here?"

Steve flinched back. Like he got slapped. Eddie realized that sounded rude.

"I mean, how did you know to come to the hospital?"

He looked back at him, his thumb started to rib over Eddie's knuckles. Soft movements and it made Eddie's stomach drop.

"Im the one who called the ambulance." Steve said slowly. "I was just driving around and thought I would stop by to annoy the shit out you like you do to me."
