Summer of 1987
A year after the Vecna's downfall

Waking up without Eddie in his bed was the most disappointing thing to happen in the past week. But he knew it was for good reasons.

Today was the day Eddie got his cast off, and the day of the Byers campaign. Steve had been volunteered to pick up the Byers and Dustin. The wheelers would be driving themselves and the Sinclairs. And Max was catching a ride with Eddie.

Steve had a few hours to kill until then so he just walked around his house. It was empty again, his parents were off on some work trip his dad had and his mom was hounding him because of yet another affair. While he hated the loneliness, he hated when they were home more so he would deal with the lack of company.

Plus he was going to have a lot of socializing when the entire group was playing D&D. He had looked into stuff a bit, he knew the basic creatures and sorta how to play. He knew to roll the dice and that it determines how the game goes. He also knew it could take hours to play which is why they were starting the campaign at twelve, then having a sleepover at his house.

It would be great, he wasn't nervous at all.

With nothing to do, Steve kept thinking about the lake. Kept thinking Of Eddie's lips. Kept thinking of when he touched his stomach and how his scars felt under his finger tips.

Steve wanted to kiss him desperately. It would've been the perfect moment for it, under the stars. He could've kissed him at skull rock too, it was a make out spot. But he didn't. Because he was coward and an idiot.

He knew Eddie liked him back, he could feel it. So why couldn't Steve just ask him out? Or kiss him? It's like he was holding himself back.

He could do it, he will do it. Kissing Eddie was something he really needed to do. Otherwise he will actually go insane.

In hindsight, maybe he shouldn't have volunteered on carpool duty and lunch duty. He didn't mind paying for the pizzas, he declined anyone trying to chip in, but  it was picking them up and then getting the food.

"Henderson, hurry up. The pizzas are going to be cold at the restaurant by the time you get in the car and we go and get the Byers."

"They keep them in insulated bags so they don't get cold." Dustin was taking forever to drag all his shit to the car and put it in the trunk.

"I swear if I have to get out of this car I will kick your ass we are going to be late." He then honked the car for emphasis.

"Coming!" Dustin climbed in the front seat, not wiping his shoes off at all before climbing inside.

"Took you long enough." And with that they drove to the Byers Family's new house.

The house wasn't too terribly far from Dustin's thankfully, and when Steve pulled into the king drive way he noticed Hopper's truck. Joyce and Hopper were officially engaged, and had been doing long distance since the year before. Hopper was getting the house ready for them to move in and Joyce was selling the last one.

The house was nice, two story and plenty of room for the happy couple and three kids. The government had bought it as hush money but also as a "sorry we almost got your daughter and the others killed" present.

Steve honked once and the door opened immediately. Eleven walked out in jeans and a sweater. Her hair was still short, from when the assholes shaved, it was right at her chin.

She seemed excited to see them and had a bag on her shoulder as she skipped towards the car.

She was followed by her adoptive brothers Jonathan and Will. Jonathan finally seemed to tame his hair but will was still sporting a bowl cut.
