'We only see each other at weddings and funerals

On the 12th hour of the first day of October 1989, 43 women around the world gave birth. This was unusual only in the fact that none of these women had been pregnant when the day first began.

Sir Reginald Hargreeves, eccentric billionaire and adventurer, resolved to locate and adopt as many of the children as possible.

He got eight of them.

Today had been an interesting one, to say the least.

Klaus had been released from rehab and overdosed in the same two hours. It wasn't a rare or surprising occurrence but it still scared the shit out of Rose.

The woman sat in the back of an ambulance, hunched over Klaus' unconscious body as she watched the paramedic resuscitate him. Drugs were great and all but did he really have to do this every week?

The paramedic jumped back shocked as Klaus sat up suddenly, gasping a huge, deep breath. He removed his gas mask and laughed, peering down at his sister and leaning to high-five her. When she glared up at him unimpressed, he winced and turned to the paramedic getting a high five out of him instead.

Rose moved to sit next to him, swatting him in the head as she did so, as the small tv in the corner began to shout the breaking news at them.

"Moments ago, police reported the death of the most eccentric and reclusive billionaire..." the news reporter continued to speak but neither twin was listening. Klaus leant closer towards the tv like he didn't believe the reporter whilst Rose's eyes went wide with shock. Their dad was dead. She searched every inch of her brain for even a hint of sadness but there was none to be found.

She turned her head to her brother, a shit-eating grin creeping onto her face and he reflected almost exactly the same expression. The man let out a small laugh of relief and Rose leant into the wall behind them.

"I'm starting to rethink that high five."

Never mind, today was the best day of Rose's life.

It had been a long time since Klaus and Rose had seen the academy, let alone stepped foot inside its gates.
