'Number Five'

The sweet sound of birds chirping swarmed Rose's mind, slowly restoring her consciousness. She groaned internally, her fingers twitching as they regained movement. The bird song was warped in her mind, sounding as though it were underwater and her legs were stiff after so much time laying unmoving.

She gently pried her eyes open and the world around her rippled in her vision. Rose's mouth opened and closed in confusion at the sight in front of her.

She was spread out, on her front, on the ground, soft grass and daisies surrounding her and cushioning her body from the hard ground. A couple of metres away, a large willow tree was situated in the centre of her vision, hundreds of brown leaves swaying in a breeze that she couldn't feel.

Rose slowly and carefully pulled herself up onto her feet, swaying as she went. She took a hesitant step foward, wiping the dew from the grass off of her cheek, and stumbled towards the tree, dazed and confused.

The wet grass soaked through her shoes as she reached the tree. Her eyebrows furrowed in confusion and yet a smile broke out across her lips when she spotted a carving on the trunk of the tree and she traced it with her thumb.

On the front of the tree was a small heart messily carved out and in the centre, in Rose's handwriting, was chipped a small 'R + B'.

"Rose."

She whipped around immediately, gasping when her green eyes made contact with a deep blue pair. He was young, unlike the version she had seen in her kidnappers' hotel room but he was still clean of death.

"Ben?"

She slowly crept foward, the grass squelching under her feet as she went. He walked towards her and they met in the middle. Rose's hand stretched out in front of her and her hand made contact with his cool skin as his young features creased with his smile.

"You have to help him." The small boy stated, smiling at her again.

"What?" Rose asked, confused at the boy's comment.

"Klaus. You have to find him."

"Yeah. I... I will." She unwillingly tore her eyes away from Ben's face, as the world around them began to fluctuate. The clear, blue sky swiftly switched between a dark grey sky, and the bright green grass below them flipped to a blinding white blanket of snow.
