'Run boy run'

At the sound of an old bell ringing, all eight of the Hargreeves children sprinted from their rooms and into the dining room. Rose smiled at her mother as she ran past, stopping when she reached her chair. Number Eight's chair faced her brother Klaus and was placed next to Ben's, courtesy of Allison 'persuading' their father to sit them together. The children stood there in silence until their father appeared in the doorway. He slowly made his way over to his chair and moved to sit down.

"Sit." He commanded as he took his seat at the head of the table.

The sound of Herr Carlson explaining how to climb could be heard playing quietly in the background of the large room as the young children sat quietly in their chairs. Rose watched as Ben read silently to her left and Klaus rolled a joint under the table opposite her. Rolling her eyes slightly, she leant forward to take a bite of her food before resuming the sketch in the leather journal that was balanced on her lap.

Rose jumped as the silence was abruptly interrupted by Five slamming his knife into the tabletop, anger written all over his face.

"Number Five?" Reginald asked, not bothering to look up at him.

"I have a question." Five spat at him.

"Knowledge is an admirable goal, but you know the rules. No talking during mealtimes." He replied, "You are interrupting Herr Carlson."

"I want to time travel."

"No."

"But i'm ready. I've been practicing my spacial jumps, just like you said." He said, teleporting from his chair to his dad's side in a flash of blue to prove his point, "See?"

"A spacial jump is trivial when compared to the unknowns of time travel." Reginald stated, lifting his glass to take a drink. "One is like sliding along the ice, the other is akin to descending blindly into the depths of the freezing water and reappearing as an acorn."

Rose furrowed her eyebrows in confusion as she watched the scene unfold, at the same time Five muttered "Well, I don't get it."

"Hence the reason you're not ready."

Rose glanced across the table at Vanya just in time to see her shake her head at him in a silent plead.

"I'm not afraid."

"Fear isn't the issue. The effects it might have on your body, even on your mind, are far too unpredictable." Reginald was beginning to grow angry now, annoyed by Five's constant arguing. "Now, I forbid you to talk about this any more."
