Leaving Addison at home for the grand opening of the apartment building was a no brainer.

Bucky was playing the solemn husband role spectacularly, his eyes void of any emotion, a cold glass of brandy clutched tightly in his left hand, his ring pressing up against the glass. Sad smiles were being sent his way as he leaned against the bar, Steve and Sam on either side of him, Rebecca dangling off Sam arm while Warner walked around greeting everyone. "Mr. Barnes," A gruff voice brought his attention to his left, his scowl taking place on his face when he was face to face with none other than Mr. Odin, "I'm so very to hear of your loss, Thor informed the other night that Addison did not make it."

The bile that rose in Bucky's throat as he whispered out the words, thank you, threatened to spill out of his mouth.

"Such a beautiful life taken so early," Odin sighed, shaking his head while Bucky dropped his gaze down to his ring, blinking back the tears he was creating, "we just wanted to extend our condolences." Odin smiled weakly while Bucky nodded, using his thumb and forefinger to pinch the bridge of his nose. "Thank you Odin, I expect to see you at the meeting on Friday, work must go on." Bucky muttered, bringing the glass up to his lips, taking a long sip. Odin offered a tight lipped smile, a singular nod being the answer to Bucky's silent question. "Wouldn't dream of being anywhere else." Odin murmured while he walked back into the crowd, disappearing in the sea of bodies.

Steve's hand appeared on Bucky's shoulder, giving a curt nod and a smile while Bucky relaxed his muscles, a long sip of his brandy slipping down his throat.

Masking his emotions was easy, but having to act like his wife was dead when all he wanted to do was rub in the men's faces that they failed was proving to be a hell of a lot more difficult than he expected. He hadn't realized how much he hated these events until he had Addison. All he wanted was to be curled up in their king sized bed, her head resting on the spot below her tattooed name, the soft city lights sparkling against her bare skin. He was helplessly in love with her, irrevocable, he would give up the world he was in if it meant she was with him forever.

But he knew her, and he knew that should stay by his side through everything.

"Buck!" The ear piercing voice immediately made his spine straighten, eyes glancing up to Steve to see him quickly downing a shot before handing him one as well. Throwing his head back he relished in the burn of vodka that slid down his throat at an agonizing pace, body going rigid when two small hands wrapped around his waist from behind, a body plastering to his back. "I've missed you so much." Emily's voice shattered his eardrums, his heart aching to be with his wife at the smell of cheap perfume surrounding him. Emily, the girl he had broken it off with two weeks before he met Addison. She was overbearing, never knew when to leave, desired more than sex at all times.

She was part of Bucky's past that he had buried.

"Oh," Emily spoke quickly, untangling herself from Bucky quickly, while he stepped towards Steve, taking the shot out of his brothers hand and slamming it back, "I'm so very sorry about your wife." Emily stated, venom rolling off her tongue at the title, a deep breath leaving Bucky's lips as he finally turned on his heel, facing the brown eyes he buried like the rest of the women of his past. "Thank you, she was truly a wonderful person. I loved her so much." Bucky stated, his hand pressing to the tattooed name on his chest, his ring on display, smirking at the way Emily recoiled at the sight, like she had been smacked with the information.

"You weren't actually here to pull a move on a grieving husband, were you?" Steve asked, his voice exasperated.

"That would just be a horrible thing to do to a man who just lost the love of his life." Sam spoke, seeing the way that Emily's cheeks tinted.
