November 2017
I could feel my phone vibrate in my pocket. I was eager to see what the cause of the vibration was but couldn't because I was still stuck in my last lecture of the day. I was hoping it was going to be my last lecture for the next year if I got the news that I was hoping for. If that was even the reason that my phone was vibrating. I started to fidget in my seat from my anxiousness to the point that my professor noticed it.
"Adeline, do you need to be somewhere?" She asked as she was writing some information on the dry erase board with her back towards all the class.
I swore my professor had eyes in the back of her head which is why I didn't check my phone in the first place.
I stopped tapping my leg up and down, "I'd rather be nowhere else in the world."
A few of my classmates laughed.
"Be that as it may, can you at least try and focus for the remainder of your class please?"
"You got it!" I exclaimed throwing her two thumbs up for good measure.
Again a few of my classmates laughed.
I looked up and checked the clock on the wall. Still 20 minutes to go until class was dismissed. Ugh, why is it that time slows down when you need it to speed up and vice versa I thought to myself dismayed. I shrugged internally and put my focus solely back on my professor trying to forget the phone that had vibrated in my pocket.
Class was finally dismissed and without missing a beat, I pulled my phone out of my pocket. I was holding my breath without realizing it. I tapped my phone screen which brought it to life. I unlocked my phone with my thumb which brought up my home screen showing that I had received an e-mail. Still holding my breath, I opened the e-mail. The e-mail was from the Agency that I submitted my Photography Portfolio to. I started to read the e-mail while slowly beginning to breath at the same time. I squealed in excitement which startled my professor.
"Really Adeline!" My professor screeched as she clutched her chest from the mild panic attack she just suffered as she thought everyone had already left.
I didn't pay attention to the glare she was giving me since I was again re-reading the e-mail to make sure I read it correctly.
"I got the job! I can't believe it. I really got it." I shouted ecstatically.
I was so excited that I could hardly contain myself from squealing again but managed to do so. I didn't even notice the perplexed look my professor was giving me as I hastily threw everything into my backpack and all but ran out of the lecture hall.
Skipping down the hall I was still absorbed in the good news I just received when I was tackled from behind almost having the wind knocked out of me. Catching my breath, while turning to see who tackled me, I immediately smiled even wider. It was my best friend, and dare I say ALWAYS partner in crime, Torrie.
Torrie was taller than me at 5'4". She had a slim athletic figure since she was a runner. Rain, snow, heat, it didn't matter what the weather was Torrie ran every day. It was most likely the reason she weighed less than me because that girl could eat. In addition to her athletic build, she had straight strawberry blonde hair that came down just past her shoulders. Her eyes were a pretty crystal blue which given her tanned complexion makes for a striking first impression. It was no wonder she had guys calling her to ask her out for dates ever since I could remember.
As for me, I am the complete opposite in looks to Torrie. Unlike Torrie who is average height, I am short, like five feet tall to be exact short. Due to this I'm considered petite. I don't look as slim as Torrie thanks to my height. I am fair skinned with some spotting of freckles along my arms and face. My hair which runs the length of my back is a deep dark brown almost black and curly. My curls are cut in long layers to lighten some of the weight having so much thick, long hair can have. My eyes are also brown, well mostly brown. If you look closely at my eyes, you could see streaks of gold and dark brown hues throughout them. Normally you can't tell they have those features unless I wear my contacts which I only do when I am working on my photography. I prefer my glasses that are black in frame. I am basically your girl next door as opposed to Torrie who is the girl next door you worry about introducing to your boyfriend.
"What has you so happy?" Torrie asked still back hugging me.
Before I could answer, Torrie spun me around to face her.
"Wait, did you get a job offer?"
I smiled brightly and held my phone up in front of her so she too could read the e-mail. As Torrie read the e-mail, I could see her face break out into a smile. After she finished reading it Torrie grabbed me pulling me into a celebratory hug and started jumping around in a circle while hugging me despite the stares from the other people moving about the hall.
Torrie stopped all the sudden though pushing me in front of her at arm's length when it dawned on Torrie that I would be leaving her for God knows how long to go on this job. I could tell what Torrie was thinking without her having to voice it. I could also tell that Torrie wanted to cry but at the same time she was really excited for me. I felt the same. I had never been away from my best friend for more than a week at a time.
"I know, I know, but remember, you were the one that suggested I should take the leap and apply for a job with the photography agency." I spoke.
"I know, but I didn't think you would get a job offer either. " Torrie responded frowning.
"Seriously!" I exclaimed smacking her.
"I'm just kidding." She grinned. "I knew you would get at least one job offer. I just didn't think it would be so quickly." She pulled me into another hug.
Pushing me back again, I could see that she looked like she was going to cry again which in turn made me want to cry. Torrie refrained from doing so though. She instead linked her arm with mine and started walking toward the exit to leave the building.
"So, what is the job again exactly?" Torrie asked as we continued walking.
"It is called a Tour Photographer. You basically go on tour with whatever group the company that hired you assigns you to. You take pictures of their stage performances, behind the scenes stuff, etc." I explained what my job would entail.
"I'm surprised you were hired for that considering you didn't have any band performances in the portfolio you submitted to the agency. Then again, your portrait photography is quite amazing. Who am I kidding? All of your photography is amazing."
I smiled at the compliment.
"What company are you going to be working for again?" Torrie asked.
I pulled my phone out because I couldn't remember exactly who it was with either since I just focused on the fact that I was offered a job.
"Big Hit Entertainment." I read out loud from my phone.
"Never heard of them. Where are they located? Which band are you going to be touring with?" She asked further.
"They definitely aren't local that's for sure. They are based in South Korea." I continued reading till I spotted the name of the group I would be touring with. "The group is called BTS it says."
"Never heard of them."
"Me either."
We both shrugged at the same time. I put my phone back in my pocket as we continued our trek through the campus heading to the parking lot to leave when Torrie stopped in her tracks and turned to face me.
"Wait, have you talked to your parents about it yet? I know you said you were going to tell them after you applied. Did you?"
"About that." I said with a nervous grin.
