YOU GET A DOOR. AND YOU GET A DOOR

"How are you holding up?" I asked Annabeth while she past me her thermos bottle of tea we were sharing.

To say our adventure in the labyrinth wasn't going well is an understatement.

It was horrible.

Terrible.

Atrocious (Annabeth taught me that word).

After our run in with Justice and Luke and losing Nico, we were on the run almost non stop. The labyrinth threw every trick in the book at us. Monsters, booby traps, crazy Karen vampire ladies (don't ask).

It was so terrible, that sitting in a dark cave as cold as a meat locker seemed like paradise by comparison. Annabeth and I were forced to share my cloak to keep each other warm, we sat with each other's back resting on the other. She had decided taking this moment to rest would be better then facing whatever lied ahead.

My golden shield and her bronze life were the only sources of light in the cave. They rested on the ground next to us.

"Horrible. None of this is making any sense." She responded. "My leg still hurts from our last fight."

I sipped some tea. "I told you to not push those crazy Karen vampire ladies without me."

Annabeth scoffed. "How's that shoulder doing? Y'know, after I told you not to ram yourself against that mad centaur."

I took another sip, ignoring her question and the pain in my shoulder. "That's what I thought." She said.

"We need to work together more." I said aloud.

Annabeth readjusted herself, rubbing her back against my own while she moved. "If you would just follow my lead, we wouldn't have a problem."

I passed the bottle back to her. "A lot of your split second decisions require you to put yourself in needless danger."

Annabeth took another sip. "I could say the same for you. But at least my ideas are a calculated risk. Yours are pretty simple."

She cleared her throat and deepened her voice. "Move Annabeth, I got this."

I elbowed her lightly. "Shut up, Chase."

She chuckled and elbowed me back. "You first, Grace."

Putting aside the many conflicts we had to undergo, fighting side by side with Annabeth taught me a lot about her.

Her mind for battle is second to none, not even Reyna could match her. Reyna is better suited for leading and motivating other fighters, but if you want a air tight battle strategy? Annabeth is your girl. We joke, but if it weren't for her, I would have probably died on multiple occasions.

More over, and it's as I hoped, she wasn't a cold hearted as she tried presenting herself as. During some of our encounters, I had tried to reason with the many monsters we had face. Obviously, none of them cared and still attacked us, but when it was all said and done she did not judge me. She even praised me for it.

"Hey Jason," she said after a hard battle with a giant serpent lady. "What you did back there was stupid, but........... thanks."

"What do you mean?" I asked her.

She looked away, not meeting my eyes. "It's just....... You tried to give her a second chance. And that's just.... Cool. I guess."

"Your really bad at compliments." I told her.

She smiled and punched my bad shoulder. "And your bad at taking compliments."

I smiled at the memory.
