"Max, we are not prepared for a full on assault." Sam said to Max, sitting across from him. " We don't even have enough weapons for the entire legion. Let's call off the assault and-"

Max kept his focus on the documents in front of him after chugging a can of monster energy drink. He tossed the can behind him onto a pile of empty monster cans. "Not a problem. I have the armories making steel weaponry instead."

Sam blinked. "I'm sorry, what?"

Max signed the document and went on to the next. "We are going to war with other demigods. Imperial gold, celestial bronze, steel. Doesn't matter what we use, any of them are just as efficient."

Sam shook his head and slammed his fist into the table. "Listen to yourself Max! Killing other demigods? You can't be serious?"

Max remained calm, only glancing up at Sam. "Took you three weeks to finally get the courage to speak your mind?"

Sam swiped the papers off his desk. "Let me repeat myself. We are going to war against another camp of DEMIGODS. Kids just like us. We don't know anything about them. What there goals are. If there even on the same side as Luke and Justice."

Max sat back into his chair. "You heard the prisoner. She confirmed that camp half-blood is working alongside Luke and Justice. I need no other proof."

Sam shook his head. "How can we be sure? How do we know she's not just another spy of Justice, sent to create a divide between the two camps. That Selina chick gives me bad vibes."

Max sighed. "Look, Sam. You don't need to take part in this. Go. Run away from your responsibility like you always do. I'll tell the camp you went on a scouting mission. You can sit this war out while I handle the rest."

"Like hell I am!" Sam shouted. "Your going to threaten the safety of my home for your stupid quest for revenge."

Max clenched his jaw. "I am serving the will of the people."

"Bullshit, Max!" Sam exclaimed. "Everyone knows how you felt about Ben. You think killing a bunch of kids in Camp Half-Blood is going to make you feel better?

Max flipped the table, rush over to Sam and grabbed him by his neck. He threw him to the Praetor chairs behind, slamming him into Jason's chair. When Sam got back on his feet, Max was already on him. Max pushed his elbow into Sam's neck and forced him up against the bleached white walls behind him.

"SHUT UP YOU COWARD!" Max shouted, his voice rough and angry. Max's eyes glowed blood red. "I don't care who's in my way. Greeks, Romans, or Jupiter himself. I will rip them all to shreds if it means getting to Luke. That son of a bitch took Ben from me. FROM US! Can't you see that? I was there, when that arrow struck Ben's neck. I had just rushed into the room. Ben handed Jason the flag and told him he won. As if he had already accepted his fate. HIS FATE!"

Sam's eyes flashed sea green and he pushed Max back. Sam fell on his knees, holding his neck and coughing. Max stood over him, his large frame casting a shadow over Sam.

"My fate was to die on that boat." Max said, his voice trembling. "We sailed for days, weeks, months from Australia to get to here! Do you know how many demigods I had to throw overboard? Because they died from heat exhaustion, starvation, and drinking themselves silly with salt water. I had accepted my fate. I had begged the gods to take my life. To cast me overboard with the others. But then you came in."

Max starting pacing, stalking Sam like a lion. "You saved Bronk and I. The last two to survive out of twelve other demigods. Twelve! I wasn't supposed to make it here. I was supposed to die on that boat! My life was no more valuable then the ten others I threw over board!"
