Artemis
A mate? What's that? Confusion struck me; I don't recall anything about a mate.
"Uh...Diamond...W-w-w-why did Elli turn into a wolf? Did you give us mushrooms?" Dad asks. He looks scared, about to piss his pants. Totally forgot she shifted. This is going to be an interesting conversation.
"Nyx, let go..." I say softly. I think I can handle it; I just need to sit. "Don't say I didn't warn you." She sounds disappointed. But right now, I have bigger things to figure out.
Slowly, I feel myself again. I hurriedly sit on the sofa and try to regulate my breathing.
Nyx is right, the drug is strong, but I had stronger things in the past. Time may have passed since then, but I can still fight the drug on my own.
Feeling strong enough to explain this, I sit up. Victoria and Dean immediately sit next to me. Their look content doing so, happy even. I gaze at my family, mum's passed out on the sofa, and dad is sitting still, too afraid to move a muscle. Ben is still laughing but looks insane, like a maniac laughing to himself.
Melanie, however, looks nonchalant about the whole thing. She knows more than she lets on. I mean she knows Elli is a werewolf.
"You might want to wake up mum. I don't want to explain it to her later, it's best to contain the situation." I say calmly, yet firm. I soften my facial expression. This need to be treated cautiously, there is too much at stake.
Mel walks to mum. She kneels beside her, and gently strokes her cheek. Seeing it doesn't work I glance at Dean. "Can you please bring a bottle of water?" I whisper to him. He nods and walks to the kitchen. He returns with a bottle, and I smile at him.
Mel reaches my arm and takes the bottle. She opens the bottle and cups her hand for water. With every passing second, I get more and more anxious. I gulp, how am I supposed to tell them? I know about the existence of the supernatural world for only a few days.
Fear creeps up inside me, how will they react? It's one thing to introduce them to the world. But it's an entirely different thing to include me in it. A lump of anxiety blocks my throat. My body is rigid; my fingernails dug into my arm, wanting to draw blood. Desperate for control over the fear that is suffocating me. And the drug in my system is not helping at all!
I look down at my hands as my mum wakes up. I avoid looking up; my hands are the most interesting thing in the world now. Victoria puts her hand in mine, which makes me gasp at the fireworks.
I draw my hand back as if I touched fire. The look on Victoria is indifferent, but her eyes tell a different story. I look away, unable to watch the sourness in her eyes. I gaze at my mother; she stares at Elli, terrified. The lump in my throat grows, and I gulp loudly.
