Artemis
I stand in silence as they bury the bodies. The pain of grief is still there but not as strong as before. "I hope we will never be in this position. I don't think I will survive." Nyx whines in sadness and fear.
The unknown scares me, and even though I am still not ready to take the next step with the twins, I fear for Nyx's words. I never want to be in the poison of losing them, heck, losing anyone I love. I fear the future will take that fear and turn it into truth.
"Come, you need food and rest." I turn my head as it doesn't sound like one of the twins. Elli stands behind me, her father next to her. She smiles sadly at me and nudges my hand. I hadn't seen her until now. Gray was next to the alphas, but she wasn't.
Oh god!
"Is Andre ok? Did something happen? Is he injured? Oh god!" I can't stop the words from spilling, the result of my anxiety. My sweat covers my eyebrows as I wait for her to answer. Her face frowns, and her smile falters. She takes a shaky breath, and a sob comes out instead of words. No, no, no, please let it be false.
I embrace her immediately; her tears fall on my shirt. "He... His...His father, h-h-his father..." Her whole body shakes as she tries to talk, and my own tears fall from my eyes. "Shh... It's ok. You don't have to talk." I warp my arms harder around her. She stills in her place.
"His father is dying. One of the rogues went after Andre and his father pushed him out of the way." I freeze in my place; they went after Andre? Elli wipes her face and detaches from my embrace. I abruptly turn to Dean, this situation is in no way a coincidence!
"Dean, did the rogue go after you, or it was just a rogue you ran after?" His face pales as he realises my line of thought. His eyes squint in anger, and he growls. "Let's go to mother's office. Mark, send the doctor who treated me to RavenClaw pack. She could be of help. And I want protection on the triplets; they can't leave the premises without an escort." I follow in silence behind Dean and Victoria as they talk with Mark about the border patrols.
"You know, one day, you will be a part of those conversations and decisions. You will sit at boring meetings, and go on night runs with the pack. You will be an amazing luna." Elli says from beside me, her eyes beaming with pride. Yet, I can see the sadness and worry. She has her mask back on, trying to take control back.
"From my understanding, you too." I chuckle, so I won't spoil the mood. Mark leaves us as we reach the office, and I wave him goodbye. We sit down, and alpha Lydia wastes no time.
"Not only did they attack at the same time, but they also aim to eliminate the future alphas. We need to be vigilant. For the time being, I think they will regroup. Now that they know there is a universe wolf among us they will want to attack at our lowest."
"Wait, what? Universe wolf? When did that happen?" Elli cuts her, her body rigid and her face serious. Alpha Lydia smiles and turns to me.
Elli looks at me in shock, her eyes are wide as a golf ball. I look down to avoid the staring eyes of everyone in the room. Baby steps Artemis, baby steps. I look back up and meet proud faces, which calms me a little.
"As I was saying, they will also try to attack you, if they think they can. I know what you did scare them off your abilities. But you must be prepared for anything." Lydia says sternly.
"You will start training with us every day after classes. We took care of your parents' security problem a-"
"Wait, we are going back to college?" The fuck? Why would we go back as if nothing had happened? I look at Victoria, who seems pretty irradiated that I interrupted her. She looks me in the eyes as she continues, "yes, we are. We need to be seen in public to not raise suspicion. We may go to a supernatural university, but we don't know if someone there is a mole."
She turns to her mother, who nods in agreement. Not gonna lie; I am kinda bummed. I forgot how much I hated going to classes. When I was at home, it was easy, I was in my room.
"We will eat in the private dining room tonight as we need to talk to the triplets." Their father says, and at the mention of dining, my stomach rumbles.
Dean smiles at me and singles us to move. We all get up and follow Dean to the dining room. As we enter, three teens are working to set the table.
"Gracias, mis amores," Lydia says. I bet they are the triplets that John was talking about. They look alike, and I can see Lydia and John in them.
(thank you, my loves.)
"Let's eat!" Lydia says and sits at the head of the table and John sits at the other side. Gray sits on the left side of Lydia, and Elli sits in front of him. The triplets take the space between John and Gray while Victoria and Dean leave a seat between them.
I huff and sit in the middle, and they waste no time in serving me food. Just as fast, the light brown hair girl asks me "who are you? And why are my siblings are smashing you?" It took me by a surprise. I look at her speechless. It's like all the words disappeared from my brain.
"Arya, be nice. This is our mate." Dean barks. "I KNEW IT!" The platinum hair girl sitting next to Arya shouts. "Hazel! Lower your voice, it's rude to shout at people." Alpha Lydia scolds her. "Sorry, mama, sorry...Ugh, What's your name?" Hazel rubs her neck in an awkward moment. I smile, "my name is Artemis, but you can call me Ari."
"Sorry, Artemis." I nod at her and look at the third teen, he has dark brown shaggy hair. He is in the middle of putting salmon on his plate when he realises I am staring at him. He gives me a dashing smile similar to Victoria's. "I'm Vincent, the hotter triplet." He winks and goes back to his food.
