Third
Artemis is worried sick about her best friend. For half an hour, she has been trying to reach her. Yet her attempts are unsuccessful.
Walking defeated to her therapist's office, she crushes on the chair. Silently praying for the safety of her sister.
As Artemis meet with her therapist, her best friend is still fighting. Elli is on the brink of shifting. The rouges just keep on coming. Having no break, she takes down rouge after rouge.
"We can't continue like this anymore! They're healing faster than normal." Gray, the beta, says through the pack link. He sounds out of breath, even through the link.
Just as he finishes, a rouge jumps on him, injuring him in the process. Elli and a warrior rush to protect the beta. Checking on his wound Elli's aura turn dark and powerful.
Looking over the area from which the rouges are keeping coming from, she sees a shadow. A figure looming in the woods, standing on a tree branch. Zooming in on him, she asks Sky for help. She fists her hands, realising she's staring at a wizard.
Anger consumes her; they had never done anything to the creatures of magic. "I have found the source of our problem!" She says to her alphas, with a dark tone. "What do you mean Elli?" Alpha Lydia asks.
"10 meters inside the woods, someone is standing there. To be specific, a wizard." She replies while yanking out a rouge's heart. The alpha and her children look in the direction Elli pointed out.
Alpha Lydia shakes with anger. "Bring me their head!" She growls. "I will divert attention; you three, go after him."
Forming a plan together, they obey their alpha's command. Dean drags a rouge just into the wizard's line of sight. Making the wizard look directly at them, which cause him to lose his focus. Dean pretends to not notice the wizard as he viscously attacks the rouge.
Meanwhile, Elli and Victoria sneak up behind the wizard. Taking out the iron shackles, Victoria nods her head as Elli looks at her for the sigh. Elli climbs behind him and knocks him down. Victoria quickly cuffs him, blocking his magic.
With the wizard magic blocked, the fast healing is also gone. Finally, the warriors will be able to kill them, and anyone else coming.
Dean lifts the wizard by the colour of his shirt and yell, "why are you attacking us? Why are you working with rouges?!" The wizard just smirks, not uttering a word. Frustrated, Dean throws the wizard to the floor. Looking murderously at the wizard.
Laughing, the wizard stands up. "War is coming, and there is nothing you can do. The end of the wolves has come." Before anyone can do anything, he takes out a blade and stabs himself.
Victoria lets out a growl and shifts to her wolf. Howling, she basically says, the leader is dead. Some of the rouges back away into the woods, and the others continue to fight.
Now the warriors have the upper hand. Finishing the rest is easy. They keep a couple of them alive; to see if they can get more information out of them.
Elli and her dad make sure all of the injured members, are being treated. After everything has settled down a bit, Elli takes out her phone. She lets out a gasp, as she sees all the missed calls and texts.
Realising she was starting on the phone for more than 5 minutes, she quickly sends Artemis a text. Assuring her she and her father are safe and sound. She once again had to lie.
When they left the university, Elli texted Artemis, saying her father was involved in a car accident. She sighs, feeling drained from the fight.
"Let's pay respect for the dead." Mark, the soon to be beta, sit next to Elli. His voice is full of sadness. The fight caused 4 deaths, one of them being a child. Mark's cousin, to be precise. He was only 12 years old.
"I'm sorry for your loss," Elli says and put her hand on his shoulder. They get up and go to the backyard.
While the pack buries her dead pack members, Artemis pace nervously back and forth in the living room. She's all alone in the penthouse. Elli sent an SMS, but she's still worried about her best friend.
Not to mention, she always had someone sleeping with her at night.
This night she's all alone, as the twins are also absent. Deciding she doesn't want to be alone, she leaves the penthouse and drives to her parent's home.
Next time she will stay alone. That's what she tells herself, but the wolf inside of her disagrees. "We both know you won't! Not that I blame you or anything. But, don't lie to yourself, it's bad." Rolling her eyes, Artemis tries her hardest to ignore her. Her hands tighten around the wheel. The grip is so strong her knuckle turns white.
"Goddess! Slow down, or you will kill us all," The wolf snicker.
She wants to sass back; she wants to fire back insults. But that will lead to the acknowledgement of the voice inside her mind. She couldn't afford that. Still believing it will result in her being put inside an asylum.
Her heart feels heavy with sadness, but not her own sadness. The pain is too much for Artemis. Stopping the car near a park, she hit the steering wheel. The pain is of a loss, a death of a beloved.
It stabs her heart; it is so painful she lets out a wail. Tears pour out of her eyes. Her body shakes with sobs. The voice inside seems to be feeling the same way.
Nyx lets out a heartbreaking howl, feeling the pain of a loss. Her tail and ears are down, Nyx collapse and Artemis follow in her footsteps.
Her body clumps down, not able to deal with the pain. Artemis can barely keep her eyes open. Picking up her phone, she presses three times in a row on the power bottom. Sending an SOS text to Elli.
She doesn't want to be in an unknown place, blacked out. Fighting to stay awake, she puts on music. But nothing helps. Her hand grip loosens, and the phone in her hands falls down. Her muscles are too weak; the wolf inside already passed out.
Artemis try to hold on to the last remaining bits of her consciousness.
She loses control of her body; her head falls down on the steering wheel. Her body is heavier than normal. The beautiful olive skin turns to ash, her lips lose their colour. Her eyes close against her will. And she loses consciousness.
