Artemis
Opening my eyes, I see each and every one of my family staring at me. Their eyes filled with concern and fear. As much as I want to stay here and assure them that I am ok, we have to go.
"There is no time to explain, they are coming for the pack, warn the pack. Let's go." I say with urgency laced in each word. Elli's and the twins' faces harden. Elli growls in anger, which scares my parents.
"Elli! Go, now!" I say firmly. There is no time to waste. I hastily shove the toast into my mouth. I am going to need energy. "I am sorry, but I have to go. Don't leave the penthouse, it's not safe. Love you!" I shout to my family as I hurry up the stairs to grab a change of clothes.
The situation is bad, I do not know how I even got the vision, but that does not matter. I race down the stairs to the lift. "Slow down, you will get us killed before we have a chance to protect them." Nyx sighs.
"How we are even going to protect them?! I can't even shift! I don't know why I am even going." I reply frustrated. It feels pointless, but my need to protect the packs is overpowering. Like a lioness mother who protects her cubs from harm.
The twins and Elli stand by me as the lift arrives. The silence is uncomfortable, and you can feel the anger in the air. Against my better judgement, I take each of the twins' hands. The sparks travel up my body, which scares me, but yet excites me at the same time.
"I didn't want to say anything more in front of my parents." I sigh and breathe out the nerves; they are not going to like what I have to say next. "What is it?" Elli asks as she fidgets with her hands; her face is hard but her body speaks otherwise. "I...They are going for all of us at once. Call Andre, and tell him to be prepared. This is not just rogues anymore." I say nervously. I can feel my heartbeat about to burst from fear.
Elli's face pales at my words, and she attacks her phone as she dials Andre.
Dean squeezes my hand in comfort, but I can hear his heart and mind, he is afraid. The lift dings, letting us that we have arrived on the first floor. We do not wait for the doors to open fully and run for my Jeep.
I get out of the parking spot in record time and speed down the street. The drive is too quiet, I feel like I am sitting on thorns. We are all restless.
The vision is clear in my head, dead bodies litter the ground as dark creatures stand on top, smiling viciously. Blood is spilt upon the earth as water, while Dean and Victoria cry in agony for the loss of their pack. Elli and her father are on the ground hanging on a thread.
I can't let that happen! "We won't!" Nyx growls, her body is restless as well as she walks in circles.
I slow down the car as we enter the territory, the border wolves approach us and escort us to the packhouse. We fly out of the car, Victoria immediately asks the wolves if they are prepared. I guess she answers her as she says very well.
Elli's father and a couple which I assume to be the current alphas reach us. "Are you sure they are coming? The scouts found nothing across the borders." The woman says unsure while looking at the twins. Her husband? The other alpha puts his hand on her shoulder; she leans on the hand and relaxes instantly.
"Wow, I wish I had that kind of a safe person..." I whisper to Nyx sadly. "We will, you just have to wait."
"Yes, mum, we already had one attack; they are coming for us all," Dean says. His face automatically hardened with anger and hate."But how can you be sure?" His father asks. Victoria opens her mouth but I beat her. "Sorry to interrupt, but they are coming for all the packs at once. We have no time to waste; they are using warlocks to mask them. If you are not prepared..." Both of their faces shifted to me, their faces are confused as to who I am.
"Who are you? And how do you know?" Their mum asks while growling at me. Victoria immediately stands in front of me; she growls back at her mother. I can't see her face, but I guess her wolf is at the surface as Nyx is wagging her tail, hard. "Careful mother, I do not wish to harm you." I peek at Victoria's side; she draws her claws and teeth out in warning.
Her father does the same, protecting his wife. "She's our mate, stay away," Dean shouts. Immediately, his mother's face is replaced with a smile. "Gracias a luna! Estoy feliz por ti."
(Thanks to luna! I am happy for you).
I smile in relief, but as soon as it came it goes. The hairs at the back of my neck stand up, alerting me of the upcoming danger. "They are here!" I cry out, I can feel the evil in the air, the death that comes with them. I can feel the magic in the air, the dangerous kind.
Nyx growls fiercely, she wants out. "Elli and Gray, secure the pack grounds. You two, you will lead the front." Their mum says. "Yes, alpha Lydia!" Elli and her dad reply and go to their respective roles. She looks at me, trying to give me a role. "I have not shifted yet. Put me with the children and elderly. Nyx can fight in my human form." She nods and kisses her husband.
The twins both kiss my head and shift to their beautiful wolves. They lick my legs before following their mother.
"I will show you the bonker, you and Mark will protect them!" He takes me deep into the wood of the pack grounds. We arrive at the hidden door. "This is the entrance; you have hiding spots with weapons around here, good luck." He nods at me and shifts.
I go behind a bush and crouch down. "Here we go Nyx."
I wait in silence, hoping I won't have to protect the innocent people inside the bonker. The magic is all around, I can feel its dark magic. Though I have no idea how I even know this. This is suffocating me, my skin itching from it. Whoever is responsible for this is crazy.
This is the type of magic Sauron use. Chilling to the bone; corrupting you from the inside out. I can feel them coming out of the shadows to be seen in light.
I smile to myself, knowing that they will be surprised to find the warriors ready for them. A howl is heard. I believe the fight has begun.
I close my eyes and focus on my hearing, trying to detect footsteps, wolves. But nothing, I need practice. I sigh, irritated that I have yet to control my powers.
At least they are not here, the children are safe. "Someone's coming!" Nyx warns me; I spoke too soon. My whole body stiffens, ready to defend. Now I can hear them, there are at least five.
I take the knife from the ground, I am not completely useless. I did take self-defence classes, though those are wolves and not humans...
I can hear one of them near me, and I jump onto his neck, pushing the knife deep, cutting his artery. The other shift as they see me. Mark joins in as they heard me. Two other pack wolves come to aid.
Mark and the other two attack without mercy, ripping their throats out. Two others come from behind me, one trying to jump me but I dodge the attack and throw the knife at him, hitting him in the chest. He takes it out as if I stabbed him with a toothpick.
I try to run away as a blazing pain hit me in my belly. I look down, but I have no injuries. "DEAN!" Nyx yells in pain. The world stops and I fell to my knees. I scream in anger and pain as I feel my body morphing.
From the corner of my eyes, I see Mark killing the rest of the rogues. My whole body is on fire, my bones breaking, and fur is appearing on my skin. The pain is excruciating; I can feel the tears stinging my face as they fall. And it stops, I lift my head and see Mark and the other two bowing to me.
I waste no time and let Nyx take the front. She takes us to the north border.
