The sun has rose and set countless times, he has driven himself mad keeping track of it. It's been weeks and he feels close to giving up.
He's sick of the damn prison cells, sick of the blood on his hands, sick of not getting anywhere.... So he gave in.
The fresh rainy breeze cleared the phantom smell of mold from his lungs. He leaned out the open window of the carriage to get more. He's nearly there, he can see the estate on the mountainside.
It's absolutely nerve-wracking. He had promised to keep Karenn safe, at least until she was old enough to decide if she wanted to come back. Now he has to admit being a failure and face the consequences.
The wheels rolled onwards on the antient granet road, he didn't write a letter to inform them of his visit. It's considered quite impolite in his family, but he simply does not care right now.
He's so worried.
...
The iron gates opened and his carriage made its way up to the front of the enterance. The bamboo copses on either side of the courtyard gave shelter from the wind. He stepped out onto the flattened yellow dirt and paid for the ride.
The guards let him go through the open sliding door, recognising his grim form. He went straight trough the inner yard, rushing to the clan leaders quarters.
"I need to see my father right now, tell him it's important." He addressed another guard, they dissapeared behind the paper door and a minute later he was ushered inside.
"Father." He swallowed. The old man's judgmental stare didn't help his restlessness.
"Must be really important." He was in the middle of eating dinner. Alone.
"Karenn was abducted, I've tried everything to find her but the trail went cold. I beg for your help."
Worry took over his face. He's not Karenns father, but he came to care for her just the same. For a long time he believed her to be his blood.
The whole day was spent talking to his father. He told everything from where it happened and the trail that he followed to the way this whole thing made him suspicious of everyone around him. Especially Valkyon, why that ratty human has him on a leash he does not know, but he knows it's weird.
He likes Kassvin as much as anyone else, the guy is kind to everyone, it's just weird. Val is notorious for being a homewrecker, to be wrapped around someones finger like this is severely out of character.
He needs to stop thingking about that.... It's none of his business.
...
Six bells began ringing right as the first rays of sun filtered through the tall buildings of Kameta. Karenn whined and covered her head with a down filled pillow, trying to keep the noise out.
"Oh come on, don't you want to see your new hair in the daylight?"
New hair?.....OH, SHE HAS PINK HAIR!!!
Her eyes popped open and she bolted out of bed to look at herself in the bathroom mirror. "Like it?"
"I love it!! Thanks Lanny!"
He has given up on doing anything about the nickname. It's a futile effort. "Hurry, we're going back to Eldarya."
Today's the big day. He feels like ragnarök has come.
He took one last look at the room before leaving to see if he forgot something. The pillow...
The pillow is stained pink.
