At the dead of night, under the green and orange glow of the northern halo, a boy snuck into the garden of the Blavian castle. His heart beat like the ceremonial drums of Henda, like the hooves of a galloping horse, as if it wanted to break his ribs. He ran in the pale moonlight like he was chased, only one thing on his mind.
The soles of his shoes tapped on the paved path as he rounded a corner to his destination. The white tower, thats where he was yearning to go.
He huffed out a breath of relief, this little adventure was going great so far. He made an effort to adjust his clothes and calmly made his way towards the largest window of the floor, he knew it was right above the bed. When he was halfway there, a hand grabbed his shoulder and he nearly screamed bloody murder.
"A midnight stroll, Valkyon?" The guard asked. Of course, there were guards that weren't in plain sight, HoW StUPI D Can Y Ou BE.
"I could't sleep." He said, eyes wide in his nerveousness.
"You? Couldn't sleep?" The guard chuckled and knelt down. "No way, there must be some other reason why you snuck into the garden at the middle of the night. If I were a young one such as you I would definetly take my love to see the aurora, especially if he had his lights on because he was awake so late, waiting for me!" They pointed at the flickering oil lamp shining through the tinted window that was open juuust a crack.
"Why did you have to-"
"Gah, go already. I'll let this one pass, but the next time I catch you, I'll tell on you!"
"Thank you!" He ran up to the stone wall and scaled the vines that slithered all the way up to the brass roof. He's done this so many times, he can't remember when he got so good. That one guard was the only one that hadn't caught up to the two teens anctics. The window creaked slightly as he pushed it open and he slipped in.
He lost his balance and landed in the silk sheets of the prince's bouncy bed.
"Augh!" And in the princes lap too.
"Sorry!" They chuckled, oh how nice it was before fate had ripped them apart. They shared a shy kiss, neither of them were used to each other just yet.
"So, where are we going?" Kassvin asked as Valkyon was already stripping from his human clothes and putting them in a bag.
"The lake in the mountains. It's close to the secret entrance to the city so we can go back that way and see the sunrise too!" He turned into his dragon likeness, fluffy and approximately the right size to be Kassvin's rotreá. Their relationship nowadays is more logistics than anything, Valkyon is a big boy for sure.
They left through the balcony door on the floor above the princes bedchambers and soared over the century old oaks and evergreens towards the mountains. This is the last true night before the sunset festival, the sun is only hiding below the horizon for a few hours and when it comes back up, it wont go down all the way till the end of the summer. This is their favourite time of the year, the celebrations, the tourists, the eternal warmth of day. Nobody has deadlines for a fortnight, for the days and nights are one and the same and the clocktower workers go on their annual holiday.
They arrive at the edge of the lake, they are at the mouth of the ravine. The butt of the ravine houses the city of Blavio, they gave it a really goofy name because at the time they didn't know the small village of hunter gatherers was to grow into a trading city with riches fit for mythical gods and an army that gets global superempires kissing the queens shoes.
Valkyon turns back into a boy and wraps his arm around the archers neck, the height diffrence was not as pronounced and the dragon was the shorter one, oh how the turntables. Time flows by diffrently in Eldarya, exactly twice as fast as in this place, that gave Valkyon the chance to outgrow the blavian by nearly a foot. And several years.
