Kassvin struggled against the ropes. This situation is quite the bummer.

This super secret meeting turned out to be a super secret interrogation.

The vampire looked down at him, expecting an awnser.

"Do you know who that man is?"

"No."

"Then why did he save you? If he left you to bleed to death he wouldn't have risked being caught!"

"Maybe he needed a human? I've heard that we are excellent bait."

"So he needed a pawn..." Miiko muttered in the background. "Maybe he wanted to conduct a ritual, I've learned in the academy that fresh human blood is a useful ingredient in summoning different entities!"

"I'm not saying that he did! I don't know any more than I've already said!"

Nevra rubbed his temples. "Alright. Do you recognize this?" He threw a small metal spear on the table. A look of fear passed through the humans face.

"I do."

"Speak."

"It's a harpoon. Part of a projectile weapon." He twisted his spine to expose his left side. "They shot me with one when I got the concussion."

Miiko carefully pulled his shirt out of his waistline and observed the scar. Seems plausible.

"They hunt flying beasts with it. I don't know why they shot me with one."

"Do you remember what you were doing when they attacked you?"

Kassvin feels like there's a thousand eyes on him now. "No, maybe I was already fleeing them."

Meanwhile in the darkness of the secret passages the two kids intently listened. They're not sure what to do, but they know that they can't let this go on.

There's a strange kind of pain in Karenns chest. One that got weaker and stronger all day. Now it's nearly unbearable, but she won't tell her friend about it. She just can't.

Chrome is already thinking about how to tell Ash. This could seriously endanger their mission.

...

He remembers running. Bow in hand, ready to kill.

Something was chasing him.

He drew the bow and released. As it flew it was engulfed in a beacon of light and instantly killed the Hunter.

He heard a painful yelp.

...

Kassvin was careful to only recite the parts that didn't say too much. He knew that under no circumstances can he throw Lance under the bus. He remembers that he was there because of him.

That would mean total failure. The crystal needs to die.

"And then I fell, the harpoon hurt too much."

"That was when you hit your head on the rock. You fell on it." Nevra looked at him carefully. Searching for any indication that he's not speaking the truth.

"I assume, may I be left alone to think? So I can remember."

"Okay. Think about it."

...

It's raining really hard. It's been raining hard for a while.

You can call him a fool for leaving HQ in this weather all you want, but this is a matter of life and death.

At least judjing from what Laurin told him.

The cold is cruel today. It creeps under his clothes, under his skin. Freezing his fingers to the bone.
