It was Saturday morning. Cassie had woken up, gone for a run, came home taken a shower, and was in the kitchen making breakfast when her phone rang. "Hello?" Cassie answered as she held her phone between her shoulder and ear, and used her hands to pour her smoothie into a cup."Hey, good morning Rowan. What are you up to?" she was greeted by a deep familiar voice. Placing the cup and blender down, she looked at the caller ID but it was a random number. "I'm sorry who is this?" She asks. "Did you seriously not save my number?" He asks. Suddenly it clicked in her that it had to be Sebastian. She had given her number to him yesterday. "Sebastian?" She asks. "Yes, thank you." He responds.
"What are you up to?" He asks. Sebastian had just gotten back from the gym. It had been less than 24 hours since they last met. He had taken her to meet her favorite basketball player and the night had ended with her giving him a surprise hug filled with gratitude. He couldn't stop thinking about her all night. It made him feel good knowing that he could make her that happy and all he wanted was to continue seeing her smile like that. He didn't care anymore what she thought all he knew was that he had strong feelings for her and needed to hear her voice.
But Sebastian wasn't alone on that. Hearing his voice on the line made Cassie light up as well sending butterflies in her tummy. As much as she was trying to keep him at arm's length, she couldn't help the part of her that enjoyed talking to him and being around him. He challenged her and brought out a more expressive side of her. He made her feel comfortable and safe in expressing herself. When she was annoyed or pushed him away, he kept coming back, when she was loud on the court or embarrassed herself in front of LeBron, he just laughed it off and thought she was cute. But at the same time, she couldn't help but feel like this is always how it is in the beginning. Everything you do is endearing until you've fallen in love and he's got you right where he wants you, then you'll see what he's really made up off and she was not about to make those mistakes again.
"Just got back from a run and making some breakfast. What's up?" She asks. "Oh, what are you having?" He asks back ignoring her question. Sebastian's interest in knowing what she was having for breakfast made her feel like he was finding a reason to talk to her about absolutely nothing. "I'm just having a smoothie." She says. "Smoothie? A smoothie is not "breakfast" Cassie." He laughs a little. "I'm sorry, but did you call me to ask me what I am having for breakfast, or did you actually need something," Cassie asked. She was running out of ways to make Sebastian stop trying to pursue her as deep down she was afraid she was close to losing, and him winning.
"Hey, I didn't mean to upset you. I'm sorry. I just wanted to hear your voice that's all. I miss you." He says, Sebastian was a little confused and taken aback by Cassie's irritation with him. The last thing he wanted to do was annoy her. "You miss me? Sebastian, I was out with you less than 24 hours ago. Pfft, give me a break." She snickers. "Well, I'm serious. When can I see you again?" He says in a serious tone. The line goes silent for a while before she continued. "I don't know, I'm really busy and I've got a lot of work to do." "Are you seriously still using the 'busy' line with me again? I thought we were way past that." He says as he rolled his eyes in annoyance. "Well, I am really busy and...."
"What's going on Cassie?" Sebastian cuts her off. His tone was now one that showed he was upset and tired of being messed around with. "Cause I feel like you're giving me missed signals here. You seem to have a really good time when we're actually together, and then you turn cold when we're not and I'm really confused. I've made myself pretty clear about my intentions and how I feel about you. So where are you at?" He ask, Sebastian was starting to get annoyed by Cassie's hot and cold attitude.
The line remained silent for about 5 seconds and Sebastian was ready to hang up on her when she said "Do you eat Jamaican food?" that came out of nowhere. "What?" Sebastian responded in confusion.
