Her Fear Of Falling Again

Chapter 32

A few hours ago when he found out where Cassie was, he felt everything in him begin to align again. Cassie messed up by keeping what she did from him but he knew she regretted it. The thought of him allowing her to carry on thinking that he was completely over her, was something he couldn't help but beat himself up over. He loved her; she was the only one for him, and he needed her to know that. 

"You're crazy!" Lisa his sister said as she watched her baby brother pace back and forth around her office.

"No, I'm gonna do it. I love her and she needs to know it." Sebastian says.

"Yea of course you love her. I love her too but this is big Sebastian and you guys have not spoken in months. What makes you think this is the right move? She might be seeing someone else by now." Lisa says. 

"I don't care." 

"She hasn't even met mum and dad. And I can't imagine what her dad will think about all this." Lisa tries to rationalize with him. 

"Lisa, I don't care what anyone thinks about this. I'm going to ask her to marry me and I'll talk to her dad before I leave. He says. "You said her dad hated you." Lisa reminded him.

"He doesn't hate me, he was just a little disappointed that I left things the way they were, for too long. Which I get." Sebastian explains. "So you're really going to do this huh?" Lisa asks again just to be sure that Sebastian was really thinking this through and was not acting on impulse. Sebastian nodded his head with sure confidence.

She always respected and held her brother in high regard as she knew he was always someone to think his moves through and everything he did was always well calculated and thought out, which was why she was more than willing to build a firm with him. But when it came to Cassie, Sebastian was a whole other person. He sometimes seemed unsure of himself, he would do things for her that were out of character, and as an older sister, no matter how much she liked Cassie, she was a little protective of her brother. Seeing him as heartbroken as he was after the break-up, really terrified her.

Sebastian had blown off work without even calling in, he wouldn't tell her why exactly they broke up. His house was a mess, and he had drunk a lot she thought he was going to have a drinking problem. It took him only the last few weeks to get back to a routine again and now he goes from that to wanting to propose to her?

"I just want you to be happy Seb," Lisa says standing up to hug him. "I know she will make me happy," he says hugging his sister. "Okay... Then go and get your girl." She says pulling away a little and tapping him on the cheek.

At the hospital:

Sebastian was seated in the waiting room at the emergency wad hoping to bump into Anthony as he finished his shift. Sebastian was told that Anthony was conducting a 7 hours surgery and had been doing it since this morning and would be done within the next 2 hours. As he sat there in the waiting room, fidgeting with the ring box containing the most beautiful 4-carat cushion-cut diamond ring in his hand. He began to wonder what Cassie was doing at this very moment. Something his sister said, had stuck with him. Could Cassie have moved on? Was she seeing someone else? It has been 2 months, was 2 months enough for her to get over him?

"Hey son, what are you doing here?" Anthony's voice caught Sebastian off guard as he jerked from his slumped position in the uncomfortable waiting room seat, and the ring box almost slipped from his hand.

"Sir! I... I was waiting to see you." Sebastian says as he stood up. "Look kid, I know you want to see her, and as I said, you can talk to her when she gets back okay? I'm exhausted and I'm going home to sleep." Anthony says as he began exiting the hospital, walking towards the car park. Sebastian was hot on his feet as he followed Anthony out of the hospital.

"Sir, please, just give me 5 minutes of your time, I need to talk to you." Sebastian pleads as he jumped in front of Anthony walking backward trying to keep up with his pace. Anthony came to a halt and so did Sebastian as he waited for Anthony's next move. Anthony was exhausted, but Sebastian's eagerness and desperation were obvious to him that he decided to give in.

"You're going to buy me a drink," Anthony says as he unlocked his car. "Get in!" He yells at Sebastian who stood there with a goofy grin on his face.

"Did Cassie ever tell you why we broke up?" Sebastian asked Anthony as they sat at the bar both sipping on a scotch on the rocks with a twist. "She said she hurt you and you couldn't forgive her. But never told me what it was." Anthony says looking at Sebastian as Sebastian simply looked down nodding. "Did she cheat on you? Cassie's not one to do something like that. Whatever it was, I'm sure there was an explanation." Anthony says, blindly defending his daughter.

"It doesn't matter what she did. I was upset but unfortunately, I love her. And not being with her is worse than anything else that happened." Sebastian says. "Did she cheat on you?" Anthony asked again. Sebastian contemplated saying anything but he also needed Anthony's blessing and understanding of why he needed time to heal. 

"Her ex-boyfriend had come back and somehow managed to lure her and no she did not cheat on me per se, but he had managed to mess with her head and she kept everything from me," Sebastian says.

"That son of a bitch! I thought he had disappeared from the face of the earth. When Cassie moved out and had gone to Connecticut to study law, he came over to my place and caused trouble plenty of times. I never told Cassie cause he always had some weird power to lure her back in. I honestly thought it was done with. How the hell did he even find her?"

"It's LA. We all run in small circles." Sebastian says. "Do you know if they started talking to each other again after we broke up?" Sebastian asked as a knot began to form in his stomach, the thought of him removing himself from the picture, being taken as a green light for Cassie to get back with her ex, sickened him. "I don't think so. She was a mess when you guys broke up and she moved back home for a bit. I had to push her to do the movie in London." Anthony says. This made Sebastian smile. 

"If you really want to see her, I can tell you where she is exactly," Anthony says. 

"There's no need for that Sir, I actually figured it out, I'm flying to see her tonight," Sebastian says smiling. Anthony raised an eyebrow questioningly. "I'm a lawyer," Sebastian says cockily. "You sure are." Anthony snides.

"Then why were you at the hospital if you had everything you need?" Anthony asked, taking another sip of his drink.

"I..uh... I just needed one other thing from you." Sebastian says nervously as he placed the ring box on the counter.  Anthony's eyes meet the box as he cautiously puts his drink down. 

"I  want your blessing to ask your daughter to marry me, Sir. I want to take care of her and love her and provide for her, not that she needs it. But... I want to. I really love her." Sebastian says confidently.

Anthony took the box and opened it giving Sebastian an impressed nod. "I'm not going to stand in the way of you marrying my daughter. I like you and I think you're one of the best things to have happened to her," Anthony says. "But I will tell you this. Cassie is not an easy one. I've been her dad for 28 years and I'll tell you that much. She's strong-willed and very stubborn at times, but she loves with everything she's got. I know she may not be perfect but Sebastian, you can't easily give up on her and walk away as soon as things get hard." Anthony says. 

"I won't, I've seen the side of her that's strong-willed and stubborn, and I love that she has a mind of her own and can't easily be coerced. And I promise to love her and be there no matter what." Sebastian says. 

"I believe you will. Welcome to the family son. You can call me Anthony." He says. "Putting out his hand for Sebastian to shake. Sebastian takes his hand but instead wraps his arms around Anthony in a hug.
