the weirdo on maple street.
8th november 1983.
"You're late."
Dallas sighs as she shrugs off her coat, "Sorry, Ray."
Ray, her boss sighs as he goes back to pushing the cart of records across the room, "Register or stocking?"
"Stocking."
She takes over the cart, pushing it across the room, she passes by the register where Stacey is working, the older girl reaches across the desk, grabbing her hands before she can walk away, "Hey, you okay?"
Dallas shakes her head looking up, "What?"
"You okay?"
"Yeah-Yeah, it's just-" She shakes her head, "Nevermind, it's stupid."
"Hey, it's not stupid if it's bothering you, Dallas, I mean, I know we aren't best friends but I do consider you a friend, you can talk to me."
"I had an argument with my uncle, it's just been playing on my mind." She picks at her nails as she shuffles through the records in the card, organising them into alphabetical order to distract her hands and mind, "Do you mind if I put my headphones on as I work, I just, don't really want to talk today."
Stacey chuckles shaking her head as she leans her elbows back on the desk and tilts her head, brunette hair falling to one side, Dallas had questioned her on that earlier- her religious grandmother was in town for a few days so she needed to cut it off, "You never want to talk, Dallas."
She taps her hand that's laying on the desk, giving it a small squeeze and she gives a tight lipped smile in return, moving her headphones onto her head, listening to 'She's Not There by The Zombies'
"Hey, how can I help?" Stacey asks, a bright smile returning as she turns to the customer that's just walked in whose gaze is on Dallas as she pushes the cart to the shelves and starts organising the records into the right place.
Humming under her breath she looks up as her headphones are suddenly taken off of her head, and placed onto someone else's, "The Zombies! My mom loves these guys!"
She flinches as Steve shouts at her, a goofy smile on his face as she nods his head along with the song, he shakes his shoulders a little loudly singing the lyrics of the song. Noticing her widened eyes he takes the headphones from his head and hangs them around her neck for her, "Sorry, I was shouting wasn't I?"
"Are you stalking me, Harrington?"
She moves around the other side of the shelf as he leans against it watching her carefully, "No, okay, I might've found out from Tammy, who found out from Sarah, who found out from Dylan who found out from Stacey that you work here."
"Why?"
"I have a comparison essay for English due next Friday, and I have no idea where to start, and this is supposed to be your job, you know, didn't you kinda sign up for this with Mrs Wilson? I really need your help to do this, so I thought, you know, maybe you could..."
