A/n: Please beware if my spelling differs to yours, I am British. I thought this up in the car today whilst listening to my mixtape and I got my period yayy.

Since Billy almost died saving Eleven and thought he was going to die he found himself regretting a lot of things. Mainly how he treated Max when she was stuck living with his dad too. How his aggressive and narcissistic behaviour was mirroring his dad and he never wanted to end up like him. He couldn't.  Not after his mother had fallen down the stairs. He would never treat a partner or child like that. 

Not mention Billy missed how his mother loved and cared for him, he felt alone and all he was doing was pushing everyone away. He realised if he was going to leave that house  his father would redirect his anger to Max, that made his stomach turn he wanted no one to be treated like that by someone that was supposed to love them. He wanted to fix his relationship with Max so wouldn't end up like him.

So that's how you got roped into accompanying Billy and Max on a roadtrip to California. Susan had heard from other parents that you had occasionally babysitted the kids when they were younger and were still watched out for them. Also, she had met you several times when picking and dropping  Max up from the house when Billy was working  and Max had informed her how bodaciously sweet and nice you were.

So, when Billy had went to her and not Neil to ask if he could take Max on roadtrip as it were back to California for a week once they got there since it was summer.. She had insisted Billy should take you to make sure Max was always watched ( over protective over strangers but not the dangerous man in her house) .

He didn't know how his dad would react but he didn't wait to find out and agreed to Susans conditions.  This wasn't long after Billy was hurt qctually it was like three weeks later and his Dad had a tiny bit of sympathy for him and had left him along. God knows how Billy was up and about already.  Billy wanted to forget everything that happened and all the over shit Max had told him that he could hardly believe   but he did. You know being attack by the  blob you tend to believe impossible things after that. 

Billy had quickly approached you after that.
You weren't unfamilar with him, the opposite,  everyone knew Billy even if you didn't attend Hawkins high. The 'michael Emerson' or the 'Rob Lowe'of Hawkins.  Plus, who hadn't Billy hit on?  Obviously he ran in to you a lot when with Max and when you were working in the record shop.  

Well, and the fact you was there when he was stabbed like billion times whilst being lifted up with that glob arm in his body as a handle. In the ambulance you had went with Max holding her into your side as she sobbed with Billy being unresponsive.  Then when Billy was in surgery you stayed with Max then too, and when he was out. Sat next to his bed you stayed with her, her head laid onto you as she slept.  You had been there when he had woken up and that had surprised Billy to say the least.

Maybe Billy felt better that you knew about everything  the upside down all that shit, he didn't want to go to Max all the time, he felt almost bad for doing that. Not that he did often.  And Billy knowing Steve was looking after the kids qnd his sister the whole time, he almost , almost, felt guilty for beating the shit out of him.  Not the fact that he dud that straight after his dad did the same to him. But now he was only teasing towards Steve ,  he didn't fight not unless he saw someone doing something truly terrible. Hell, he even was ok towards Lucas, wary 9ver hus intentions with his sister.

Everyone noticed Billy was not the same as he was before the 4th July 1986.  He was still charming and flirtatious as ever, though wore less deep v necks due to the scaring, some may even say he was insecure of the scars. Basically he was like Dean Winchester but worse. Yes, maybe bisexual too , but for Stevie.
